I underwent an operation for the replacement of my Aortic Valve in May 2024.

The prosthesis charge was R 245, 876.74 of which the medical aid only covered R 30,000.00 and we were left to pay the balance.

As we are both pensioners, this places a huge burden on us.

We inquired many times with the National Accounts Department whether there is a discount if we were to pay the account in full. We were told that they would consult with Vincent Pallotti, and they would revert back to us. This never happened.

I tried to call Ester van der Walt many times and the switchboard put me through to her phone which she never answered. We tried her direct line with the same result. The many emails to her were never acknowledged or answered.

I also asked a couple of other people to get back to me but they also never did.

We realised we would have to start making payments, which we did.

In 2023 we sold our house as we could no longer afford the upkeep. It would have been worthwhile to pay the lump sum from the profit if we could have saved a couple of thousand rands.

The purpose of this correspondence is to inquire whether there would have been a discount or not as we were never given a reply.
