Life Fourways Hospital exploiting patients
The emergency unit of Life Fourways is exploiting patients, the customer service is very poor, and one of the foreign doctors was very rude and aggressive towards me. My 71 year old mother barely speaks or understands English. Due to a miscommunication over the phone on my part, So, my mom got sent to the ER because we wanted her to see a specialist. I was driving from Pretoria and told her to go see the doc because of all the waiting and stuff. I later received a call that medical aid is declining the X-ray, and that was the shock of my life.I know doctors usually take their time to check out a patient before running tests. When I checked, I found out my mom is in the ER, even though she’s not an emergency case. I was very upset because tests were already performed without my consent. without authorization from my medical aid. I felt exploited because what hospital runs blood tests without checking the funds with medical Aid? Never mind consulting the main member. My medical aid option does not cover emergency services, meaning that I have to pay for fees that the hospital has intentionally created to enrich itself without considering the client. My mom was made to sign files and forms without anyone explaining in her own language what she was signing for. Patients are left in a close rooms for hours while the doctors are chasing after money to treat everyone that enters the ER whether they in emergency or not. I'm so disappointed, especially that the hospital failed to explain the procedures to me after barely four hours of seeking answers as to why my mom was brought to the ER and tested without my concern. My mom entered the hospital at 1 PM, and we left the hospital at 9 PM. On the way out, after paying for the X-rays in cash, the receptionist asked us to pay for the consultation. Why wasn't I told about the consultation fee? Usually, hospitals share that info upfront to avoid payment drama. This hospital is exploiting patients and operate like ponzi scheme.
