My dad was admitted to trauma on Sunday - doctor was informed of patient's ill hearing number 1. Number 2 he was in theater on Monday - no one has informed us of what they found or what the next step will be - I left a msg for Dr Peters yesterday - still no phone call, last night Sister Visagie called us to say the patient discharged himself - HE WAS NOT HIMSELF - very aggressive and paranoid but they could not pick this up from the time he was in the ward (he advised us he moved 17:30) until they called us after 19:00. Sister Shirley said Dr Peters said he can be discharged - in front of the security - then Sister Visagie said no it is at own risk and Dr Peter refuses to treat him further if he discharges himself - again he was not himself at all - we were reminded that Dr Peters is actually a professor - but he refuses to help patients if they discharge themselves (not in their right mind) maybe the medication or anesthesia did not work well with him. "To treat the ill to the best of one's ability" I think that this oath was not done in this instance. The above is my personal opinion.
