Life Eugene Marais Hospital
My father passed away on the 26th of November 2025 - I waited for emotions to settle down before I wrote this review.
He was in Life Eugene hospital ward 6 and ICU 5.
From the start there was issues in ward 6 regarding care which we took up with management. Some of the staff took it very personal and and treated us on a personal vendetta manner. How I see it is : Staff working at any hospital must have a passion for people - the patients and their families. The earn salaries because of the patients and medical aid and private payments.
From ward 6 my dad was transfered to ICU 5. In the moment of my dad's death - the nurse on duty went on tea and left us alone. I had to call on the head of ICU for assistance. She was very helpfull and then called the nurse on duty. After my dad passed - the nurse tilted the bed like 40 degrees to the ground and within minutes he turned blue in the face and his ears were black. Was'nt they suppose to level the body so the blood would'nt all went to his face?? The nurse tried to fitt my dad's dentures in his mouth....did not work but left it like that - was horrible. She was supposevto use a plaster just to close his mouth.
When they called us back there was a white blanket over his body as well us a pillow on his face.....why?? this was emotionally very unsettling and upsetting :-(
The outcome would'nt be different - but they could have made it softer.
I think the staff needs more emotional intelligence training. Unlike them we dont see people dying every day - they chose the career - and we do appreciate the care my dad got BUT 60% of the staff dont have ANY empathy towards patients and family members.
