IF YOU THINK THE NATIONAL LOOTING IS BAD, THIS HOSPITAL WILL LOOT YOU TWICE - Life @ Kingsbury Hospital Claremont
I had initially been struggling with severe abdominal pain which doctors could not diagnose, and was excruciating.
After being outright rejected by Melomed Tokai being barely able to get out of my car and walk and was told directly "we will not get ahold of the doctors who can help with your issue, because they are on leave and we will not phone them for your minor issue" - I'll leave a review for them too.
After three to four hours of passing urine in my blood, vomiting and having swollen tonsils barely being able to utter words out to talk, I seemed the help of Life Kingsbury Hospital in Tokai.
Fair enough, the initial onboarding and assistance was fairly quick, however, there are two aspects to this story.
Upon my onboarding I had asked a family member to explain the troubles I had as I couldn't talk anymore and had become weak, I had asked them to explain to the doctors as well as staff that 1)My tonsils were extremely swollen, rendering me unable to talk, swallow or breathe through my mouth, and 2) I had been throwing up and passing ****** urine. After blood work tests had been conducted and radiology, doctors had only focused on my second issue.
Fast forward to later in the day, the doctor on shift had returned stating that there is a second set of blood work tests to be conducted. After allowing my concerned family member to visit me, the doctor had explained with no sincerity nor any level of professionalism that, "my white blood cell count in my body is way too high, and my body is on its last legs in terms of fighting the infection, and there's nothing they can do", and upon my family member constantly following up on my swollen tonsils in order for me to at least speak, I had been told by the doctor on shift that he "is willing to bet his money", that I had COVID-19 (ironically, my test came out negative and I had been isolating for more than two weeks anyway). After begging by my family member for me to stay overnight for observation, the doctor had refused and had made note that "they couldn't afford the bed space being taken up", and "there's no use me staying if I am about to pass on", I was discharged from Life Kingsbury Hospital.
On my way home I had informed my family member by the means of a note that I had begun to feel insanely weak and felt that I was to become unconscious, which had happened shortly after, I arrived back home.
After no help and a suspected delayed allergic reaction, and thousands in prescribed medication that didn't work, the hospital had sent me invoices which apparently was not covered by my medical aid.
After querying it with my medical aid, turns out the amount was paid and there was a shortfall but way less and has been paid in full with proof of payment being mailed to the accounts department.
During this time I had taken the initiative to request a breakdown as to what had been administered to me in order for me to advise doctors in future what may negatively affect me, I still have not received an answer to date, only an SMS stating that I was HANDED OVER FOR COLLECTION, and upon query with the debt collector, they couldn't find why I owed the hospital money, to which they still have not responded to my follow ups as to what is causing the money to be owed and how the absurd amount came to be.
According to statements and referring to tariff codes with what has been paid, what was outstanding (which had been settled with proof of payments available), there was no other funds to be settled.
Life at Kingsbury Hospital, THEY WILL ROB A DYING PERSON.
Also, as it turned out I'm still alive and now struggling with aftermaths after the visit, and after spending a mere R250 at a GP, My tonsils had burst and my ability to speak had been restored for the first time in two weeks.
After this experience I really have no faith in the medical industry. With no help and no resolution, I'm still expected to pay for a unsatisfactory and ********* service.
In future I will rather brave out my sickness than to enlist the help of "experts".
We are sorry to hear about your experience. We have shared your contact details and escalated this matter to hospital management and someone should be in touch soon.

I had been contacted by reps of Life Healthcare's nursing standards team.
Upon sending all of my communications to the team, the outstanding amount had been written off and my account settled.
Thanks to the nursing standards manager for the swift responses and rapid assistance, the situation had been rectified.
While the experience I had cannot change, the quality of service I have received upon voicing my complaints had exceeded my expectations, especially since my previous queries had little to no feedback.
Thank you.
