Hospital refusal

Got to hospital as my 13 year old child fell and hurt his wrist. Upon arrival we wait, which was fine. I have a medical aid aswell. A month before i went also, service was ok. I asked them to send me the bill as i did not have my purse on me. They did. The only money I had today, was for my bread etc for the week. They actually made me pay and refused to send me the bill. Now I'm asking, if I didn't even have that cash on me, would they still my child?
