Hospital or Roach Motel?

Good day, On the 18th of June i had to admit my 3 year old daughter to the pediatric wing of one your hospitals in Wilgehuewel. Unfortunately i am not impressed with the quality or the service of your staff or the state of the ward and the hygiene levels. 1. The basin area was not clean and had stains. 2. Bathrooms were constantly untidy and the floors were wet. Not sure if it was a leak that caused the wetness or if it was because the bathrooms were not cleaned regularly enough. Although the log sheet for the cleaning had been signed meticulously, i doubt that anything had been done besides emptying of the bins. 3. My daughter's linen had not been changed at all since arrival. Her drip had leaked and left stains behind and that same linen was on her bed when were discharged this morning at 09:30am. 4. Upon being admitted, no identity bands were given to my daughter or to myself. we could have been anyone in that hospital. We received a parent/guardian badge this morning at 08:30 just before being discharged and it was because the hospital was being audited. WOW how professional. 5. The power points for the beds were overcrowded and not easily accessible. 6. We had to ask for a cabinet and fresh linen. The linen as explained above was never received. We received the cabinet after 4:00pm. Remember we had been admitted the morning at 09:00. 7. To add to the admission phase, we had been in the ward for 45 minutes before any forms were brought or any acknowledgement was given after being shown where my daughter would be sleeping. 8. The beds were not clearly identified as no patient details were written on the boards above the beds. Nurses kept asking who is in each bed as no names could be listed above and now bands were being worn. 9. Communication between nurses and their doctors are appalling. They are not listening attentively to the doctors instructions even though seem to be scribbling away whilst the doctor is relaying his instructions. Even after this had been done nurses still had be asked, by the parents, where the medication for the children was. My doctor left instructions for my daughter to be nebulized before departing this morning after being discharged. The same nurse who was present when the doctor relayed these instructions, just said, "Oh, yes. I'll go get that."

I understand that those that work in the medical field are overworked and deprived of sleep at times, but this does not mean that the quality of your work should be influenced. I have been to several hospitals where I was privileged to witness staff that pay attention to every detail and are attentive to their patients. I have never felt so unsafe and unsure as I did whilst in your hospital. I held on to my daughter while she slept for fear that she would be taken due to the lack of security and safety measures. I am very sorry but relying on staff to remember the identities of parents and patients is not reliable enough. I watched people gain access just by ringing a bell.

Even though the above is negative and appalling I must say that Sisters Khosi and Busisiwe were very attentive and gentle when handling my daughter.
