Hospital or Bank????

I had the absolute most horrific experience with the corporate side of Eugene Marais Hospital on 17/06/2018. We were on Gems for 10 years but had changed over to Compcare as from June this year. My wife fell ill and her cist burst on Saturday. We were told that the emergency room are not able to get a hold of the medical aid and that she will have to be admitted. After we discussed it with the doctor he told us that he will give her a prescription and that should she get worse we should returm. She got worse on Sunday and we returned, again we were told that she needs to be admitted but again they are not able to contact the medical aid and we need to pay cash until they can sort it out. Being self employed myself I do understand the risks involved for non-payment, we were able to give them the medical certificate stating that we are covered with no waiting period at all, yet the management refused to assist and kept on assisting we pay cash. The problem I have is the following; regardless of the proof you give them they will not assist. When you discharge yourself as you can not afford the cash payment, you have to sign a waiver as to minimize the liability towards the hospital. I asked the Doctor, the reception and the nurse to also then give me a letter stating that they will not admit my wife without a cash payment even though they have proof that we do have a medical aid, as this will put the liability on them. I refused to sign my wife out and we left. I am waiting for the bill as they did absolutely nothing for her, not even a tablet for the pain. what I cannot understand that if they were not able to confirm my medical aid why then did they treat her on the 16th without an issue? We contacted the people who assisted us with compcare medical aid and he was just as surprised, he was told that they cannot ask for authority electronically as they do not have that function for Compcare and that we should rather join a better medical aid. I was not aware that your medical personnel have been RE financially qualified as to give people financial advice as well, perhaps you should go back to basics and start treating people looking for medical advice, I mean that is why we go to the hospital. This is the last time we as a family will make use of your facilities and we will make sure that as many people as possible knows about your absolute disregard to people's well being and your only interest in money, perhaps you should go and read the medical oath and see what medicine is supposed to be.
