Hospital Complaint

Mrs A Buyskes. Klein Helderkruin Retirement Village Block 186 Rooshof Graphite Road Wilro Park Roodepoort 1724. Discovery membership number *** This letter is a letter of disgust that my husband Mr GHD Buyskes received while hospitalized at Life Flora Clinic from the 23rd July 2021 up until the 6th August 2021. This letter will be sent to hospital management Jacque de Klerk, Discovery Medical Aid as well as Hello Peter. On the morning of the 23rd July 2021 around 11.00am I took my husband to the emergencies causality as he was not feeling well and after all tests where done which was around 16.00pm he was then taken up to a ward. I started phoning around 18.00pm and was put through to causality and was told Mr Buyskes was in ward (can’t remember) they then put me through to that ward and I was told that he is not in that ward and put me through to another ward where I was cut off. By 21.00pm and about 10 phone call and plus minus R120.00 phone calls on my cell I call the reception switchboard and told the lady on duty to phone around and find my husband and call me back as I was about to come to the hospital to look from my husband. She called me back 10 minutes later to say he was in so and so ward which I had phoned earlier on to be told Mr Buyskes was not. Mr Buyskes was moved from ward to ward and I was not told why by the nursing staff when phoning in to find out how he was doing. It has taken me this time to write this letter as I have had to nurse Mr Buyskes to health from the neglect he received in the last ward he was in and I myself have been in hospital since then. While in hospital Mr Buyskes received bed washes and toilet assists and was not assisted in walking for the 2 weeks which made him very weak that he was brought home by ambulance. Mr Buyskes at one time asked an African “sister or Nurse” on duty if he could speak to the white lady (which was the ward sister in charge) and then the race card was played by saying “the whites at the desk only work Monday to Friday and that the African nurses work longer hours. The reason why he asked for the ward sister was for her to call me to inform me that I have a problem with my mobile and that I was OK. My husband knew that staff where not permitted to use their cell phones while on duty. From that time on wards Mr Buyskes was treated with contempt by the rest of the African nursing staff his bell to call staff was taken away from him and he had to shout out for help if he needed a bed pan, and when they brought the bed pan it was thrown on the bed as well at the toilet paper and they would walk out. When Mr Buyskes came home he had to use a walker to get around our small home and on the first day when he got home I managed to get him in a shower and onto a bed to dry him down and I could smell a sour stench coming from his body. When I looked between his groin and private part I was SHOCKED at what I saw. His skin was purple in the groin as well as his private part from neglect from bed baths that was not done properly. The skin in the groin was peeling off his body. When he was in the shower I saw scratch marks on his behind where you would wipe yourself after doing a number 2 and this could only have been due to a nurse or someone wiping Mr Buyskes after him doing a number 2 finger nails. The day of discharge there was 1 nurse that was disgusted in what she saw in Mr Buyskes private part as well and asked him if they were giving him bed baths and said they were not doing a good job as well The day Mr Buyskes was discharged 4 African nurses made Mr Buyskes walk from his ward bed to the Netcare 911 stretcher in the passage and then still dropped him because he was so weak. The noise level in the ward amongst the nursing staff and cleaners was unbearable, this is supposed to be a place of healing, and Mr Buyskes and I would never recommend Life Flora Clinic to anyone. Please check Mr Buyskes file as to the state of his health on the dates stated above. Mr Buyskes has NEVER been so humiliated in his 79 year by the treatment received from Life Flora Clinic in his life and has refused to ever be readmitted in the near future to this Clinic.
