Flora Clinic - Emergency ward, Cardiology and CCU Ward

My father had a massive heart attack yesterday morning. He was weak, his skin was clammy and grey, and he was breathing very shallowly. It was a horrid sight. I broke some traffic rules and did my best ambulance imitation - hazards on, brights flashing and hooting all the way.

When I arrived at the emergency ward at around 10:45 am, I was met with efficiency, professionalism, kindness and compassion beyond anything that I've ever seen before.

Thank you, Dr Kirsten, Millicent, Lebo and every single health care professional in the emergency ward. I wish I remembered all of your names; forgive me if I don't. From the lady at the door doing the COVID screening, to the administration people sorting out the paperwork for the medical aid, to the people stabilising my father, you all went above and beyond. Your compassion, professionalism, clarity and fast response made a terrifying moment so much more bearable.

Moving on to Cardiology. Dr Conradie's receptionist is a darling. She is warm, friendly and accommodating. Dr Chris Conradie saw us and explained every detail to us. We never felt like we were wasting his valuable time. Again, it's the fantastic bedside manner and compassion that made an impact on me.

While my dad was waiting for his COVID test results, he moved to the CCU (Critical Care Unit) where he spent the night. The day staff contacted me to let me know he was doing fine and to confirm our contact details. They also told me that I could drop off an overnight bag at the reception; they will then bring it to his room. Unfortunately, as you all know during a pandemic, you may not see any visitors while you're in the hospital.

I contacted the CCU Nightshift at 8:30 pm to check on my father. Gugu answered, and I couldn't believe my luck... another kind, compassionate human telling me that my father was critical but stable. She explained his condition in detail. She also mentioned that he received his overnight bag and cellphone. This morning I received an equally informative update from Gugu.

My father phoned me this morning. I wanted to tell him how amazing everyone has been thus far, but he interrupted me by saying that if he could give Flora Clinic 6 out of 5 stars, he would. The level of professionalism, cleanliness and compassion was excellent.

I would've been grateful if you had only saved my dad's life. But you did more than save his life. Thank you. Really Thank you.

I wish everyone everywhere could experience this level of commitment in the healthcare industry. Is there a special class you guys took, or do you just employ amazing people?
