Dr Rashid Isaacs at Life Flora
This is regarding Dr Rashid Isaacs at Life Flora. I told him telephonically on Wednesday 19 June 2024 between 12h00 and 13h00 that due to the Medical Aid plan my grandmother is on and our financial situation I needed her transferred to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital now that she was out of the ICU.
After the nurses in the Femina Ward advised that he was busy with it I went to his offices and spoke with him again. this was sometime between 15h00 and 16h00. He was less than pleasant but advised that it could take up to twelve hours for a patient to be transferred.
Nothing happened yesterday, but given that I had been told it could take up to twelve hours, working hours I assume, I accepted that.
I phoned today at 13h00. The nurses in the Ward my grandmother was moved to believe that she's not being moved at all.
Dr Isaacs is not available. I asked to speak with the other doctor who apparently looked at my grandmother this morning, a Dr Govender. They will not give his number.
I have been told by the nurses not to worry as the medical aid will cover the costs for my grandmother so I can just leave her there. I was told by staff at Life Flora that the medical aid will cover the costs for Grandma in December 2023 / January 2024 and then received an invoice for R60,443.65
So in this I view Life Flora as bad.
The invoice for Grandma for R60,443.65 was for December 2022 / January 2023.
I went to Flora this afternoon. At reception I was advised that I couldn't be assisted and that the doctors could not be contacted. I was referred to the Ward Supervisor. I was told that Grandma would need to be taken to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital 's casualty and that a Doctor would be assigned after she went through casualty. Given that when she was taken to Life Flora's casualty on 14 June 2024, she arrived a bit after 16h00 and was only admitted to the ICU a bit before midnight, I was angry and wanted to speak with Dr Govender. When asked he let slip that he only phoned Life Wilgeheuwel today at around 13h20. (I phoned to find out what was happening today at 13h00 and the nurses told me they were going to call him.) I was advised that there was nothing to do and that Grandma would need to be taken to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital 's casualty.
Angry I went back to reception demanding to speak with somebody with authority. A lady named Gavonia was passing by and hearing what went on stopped to assist. She checked, found out what she could, had the copayment written off (as an apology I assume) and stated that while she couldn't do anything regarding the transfer herself she would make certain to speak with Dr Isaacs on Monday to ensure it was sorted out. I have also now been contacted to advise that Grandma is being transferred tonight.
