Disservice and mistreatment by the Labour ward stuff on duty

I am appalled at the disservice my sister received at Life Brenthurst Hospital on 30 June 2020 when she arrived in the early hours of the morning with sharp, painful contractions. Today my sister is mourning the loss of her daughter due to a nurse who failed to hear her cry when she vividly told her that what she was experiencing was more than just labour pains after some time being at the hospital.

What’s even so raging, is how she has the gall to accuse our grandmother whose 86 years of age of giving my sister something to drink to cause her late daughters heartbeat to be unstable. The nurse even compared her situation of giving birth (I don’t how many moons ago was that) with my sisters and telling her she’s being petty and screaming for nothing. My sister had a one-on-one interaction with the nurse on duty to a point the nurse wanted to physically fight with her.

The nurse dragged her feet whilst my sister cried and screamed for her dear life as the pains were just unbearable. She requested for a C-Section to which the nurse told her with an attitude that she will never arrange that for her at all.

My sister had wanted to call me to come to her rescue but the phone was never given to her as no one cared to listen and hear her out. My sister went alone to the hospital and strongly believes that all the mistreatment she received was due to no one being around to witness what she was being put through.

The nurse lashed and insulted her throughout the hours of that morning till she started bleeding uncontrollably and only then the nurse and other on duty started rushing to call for an emergency.

My sister is a chronic patient suffering from High Blood pressure. The explanation that she received latter was that it was preeclampsia, which is a known condition in patience with BP. However I believe if she was attended with urgency from the time she arrived and also was listened to, the baby could have been saved.

Am even appalled at how they are now questioning on why she didn’t come earlier… Well, Life Brenthurst team ‘The fact of the matter is my sister came on time you just failed her.’ There was negligence and mistreatment in my view and she was also taken for granted.

As a family we are shattered, If I could, I would carry her pain and loss because my sister is not coping at all. I am going to obtain the name of this nurse because I wanted name and shame her for what she did.

We pay thousands of rands to private hospitals and yet a person receives such treatment and disservice as if they are in a public hospital. I am livid with anger and rage !!! No one should go through this traumatic ordeal, no one at all.
