Did not want to be on a ventilator

My father in law is a patient in Wilgers Hospital in the cardio thoracic ICU. He was talked into an operation that the doctor had NO business doing on an 80 year old man suffering from emphysema. He stated before the operation that he does not want to be put on a ventilator and, after he was initially taken off. A tracheostomy was performed where a brochoscopy was performed and FOOOD was found in his lungs. Not only did the hospital staff incompitence cause him to aspirate food but he was put back on a ventilator something he said HE DID NOT WANT before the opreation. My mother in law is a lay person where it comes to medicine and all she ever hears is that he is calm and stable. Why does nobody tell her the truth of her husband's condition? Being calm and stable does not even begin to describe the severity of his condition and the fact that he has a poor to NO prognosis of recovery. My family is asking me to phone the hospital on their behalf because I know what goes on in an ICU and the staff treats me like I'm an idiot and tell me they cannot give me any information other than that he is calm and stable. I demand that his wife be told the TRUTH about his condition!
