COSMOS LIFE HOSPITAL - WITBANK / EMALAHLENI

<p>My mom was admitted on Saturday the 25 March 2017 due to low blood pressure and vomiting of blood. She had no medical aid therefore a deposit of R30000 was paid via EFT as per quote (reference nr. 495150), this was for 3 nights. Dr Van Westhuizen was the doctor on duty who had her admitted. Once in the ward she was well looked after. Sunday afternoon the 26 March 2017 @ 17:00 the hospital called stating that my mom was moved to casualty as there was no doctor on duty at the ward. Once we got to casualty we were informed by Dr Van Rooyen that he had to revive my mom twice. The doctor informed us that she is breathing on her own which was not possible as she is on oxygen 24 hours and when we saw her she gasping for air. They had a pipe in her mouth which was not helping due to her battling to breath and vomiting through the pipes. The doctor said she had to be transferred to the ICU in Witbank Hospital but there was no space available. We were told by Dr Van Rooyen that ICU is R6000 per night which we agreed to pay so that she can be moved but then the casualty receptionist said that an extra R70000 had to be put down before she could be admitted to ICU Cosmos. Then the sister said that they will send my mom to Witbank Hospital then be transferred back to Cosmos Hospital in order for the state to be responsible for the costs. Then Cosmos organized for Legacy ambulance because we were told that we would wait a long time for the state ambulance to fetch my mom and they would pay for Legacy ambulance to collect my mom and take her to casualty at Witbank hospital. During this time my mom was unresponsive and not moving. Her eyes were opened by she was staring. According to Cosmos they said that the Witbank hospital was contacted to inform them that my mom was on her way but when we arrived at the Witbank hospital @ 19:45 nobody knew that we were on our way. Dr Richard who was on duty in casualty took all the forms and said he would sort it out. He drew blood and let us know that it was not looking good. My mom passed away at 20:40. We do not want to sue Cosmos Hospital, we just want answers as to why my mom was moved as there was money paid for 3 nights, why my mom was treated badly during her last few hours & why were we told that they would pay for legacy ambulance? According to us my mom should have stayed at Cosmos Hospital and made comfortable for her last few hours. We feel that as doctors and nurses they take an oath to look after people in their care and we did not experience that on Sunday. My mom struggled to recognize us as from Sunday morning. The reason for this is to help the next person who might be in this situation. We want answers for our piece of mind.</p>
