Concerns Regarding Billing Practices at Groenkloof Life Hospital

I am writing to express my concerns regarding my visit to Groenkloof Life Hospital on the 15th of December. I sought medical attention due to flu-like symptoms accompanied by a fever of 38 degrees and a severe headache.

During my visit, which lasted approximately two hours, the attending doctor discharged me with prescriptions for Eerflue to support my immune system and Panado for symptom relief. I understand and accept the consultation fee of R999, especially since my Discovery plan does not cover casualty visits.

However, I was deeply disheartened to learn that an additional fee of R991.80 was charged for the use of hospital facilities. This charge seems excessive, particularly given the short duration of my visit and the fact that I neither occupied a room nor interfered with the availability of space for other urgent patients.

I find this practice highly concerning, as it appears to unfairly burden patients who are already dealing with health challenges. While I respect the need for operational costs, I urge the hospital to consider a more transparent and equitable approach to billing for facility usage, especially for brief visits.
