Complaint

My mother was admitted to Wilgers Hospital last week, and I am deeply concerned about the state of care and facilities. This hospital, once known for excellence, is deteriorating rapidly.

The showers in patient rooms are not functioning.

Curtains do not close properly, leaving patients exposed while changing clothes, even as male visitors walk past.

When I took my mother to the bathroom, there were blood stains on the wall. A nurse simply wiped it with a cloth, leaving the stains visible on both the wall and sink—this is unacceptable from a hygiene and infection-control perspective.

My mother had to repeatedly request assistance, with staff taking no less than 15 minutes to respond each time.

The team forgot to remove her drainage pipe, and only when the doctor arrived did the assisting nurse admit they had been reprimanded. It then took them an hour of struggling to remove it, causing her significant pain.

The staff do not respond to patient alarms. On several occasions, I had to phone reception myself and ask them to contact the ward so someone could assist my mother.

Upon discharge, no porter was arranged. My mother, still weak, was forced to walk out of the hospital.

Patients in the same ward played TikTok videos loudly all day. Staff did nothing to manage the noise, and my mother had to ask fellow patients herself to lower the volume so she could rest.

The ground floor was overrun with water. My mother’s shower did not drain at all, leaving her unable to use it and forcing her to walk each time she wanted to bathe.
