Childrens ward J-Health care refused, wrong information written.
My daughter was admitted on the 26th of February to Flora Clinic hospital to Ward J (Pediatric ward). We had an incident where her drip was leaking due to her pulling it. We immediately informed the nurse and she took my daughter back to the drip station. As I was standing outside she said to my daughter that you are wasting your motherhers medical aid money. WOW I kept quiet and said nothing. The same evening the drip machine started beeping and beeping I called the nurses on duty and after 20 min`s they came. They said there's nothing wrong. I checked and called them back only to see that there was a massive air bubble in the drip. They then removed it. After I had to tell them to do so. Today my daughter started crying because of a terrible pain on her left side. She was screaming and crying, my husband called the nurses and asked for help they said not now they are busy with shift change. She started vomiting and crying and they just stood their 6 nurses doing shift change. Not helping not wanting to help. Child screaming of terrible pain around the heart area. We said can you please phone the Dr something is wrong. They took their time. They removed her drip for what I don't know?????? They gave us soooooooooooo much attitude. We asked them what is the protocol if a child goes into shock or gets a heart attack they could not answer...they just looked at us....We asked to please call the "matron" on dutty to come to the unit. She came to the unit and we told our side. The nurses then told the sister my daughter refuses to drink medicine which is a lie as she is fantastic with medicine. I also asked them why they did not come and nebulise her that evening. They said because I said no not while she was sleeping ...They did not come and ask me at any stage at night. Also after they got angry when we asked them to please come and help my daughter after she was crying of terrible pain, screaming for 2 hours they advised that they will get an emergency dr to come and help us with the drip. The nurse from the ward came and said they got hold of our Dr and that he said they must give my daughter oral medication. We said that's fine and they advise they will get the medication from the pharmacy. After about 10 mins another nurse came and said she is going to drip my daughter. I said but you just said you are going to give her oral medication. They then went and told the Dr I refused the drip. No one came and told me there is a dr that can drip my daughter. I want to lodge a complaint and want to know what happens : If the hospital staff documents false things? NEVER EVER will I refuse care for my daughter. Not at any stage did I use the word NO? If I just ask what medication they are giving they write in their file I am refusing medication. I am asking what medication they are giving as I explain to my daughter that they have just given you pain medication so that she knows that she will soon feel better. Is it not policy for a nurse to also tell you what medication they give you? If I speak to the nurses they look at me and speak in a different language than English so that I can not understand. This is not an adult they were dealing with, this was a minor of 10 years old. She was screaming, crying and had to endure the most pain not once did they come and even say sorry are you okay, we are trying to get hold of the dr.The most disappointing thing is that a minor crying of pain close to the heart area was just left to cry and vomit and not health care wanted to be given as if a parent just asks them something they just write "parent is refusing? Is it not my right to ask what medication they are giving? Is it not their job to provide me with this before I even ask? Is it not my right to ask for assistance if my daughter has serve paid? If they could not get hold of my Dr should they not have contacted the emercy Dr...Should she have suffered for 2 hours. Should they not have nurses available even if they do shift change. Should this matter not have been resolved amicably? THE ONLY thing that was refused is good health care from them.Documenting wrong information because they don't understand English is wrong. We were refused good health care for a minor. False information was written on our file. The maitron on duty promised to resolve it but unfortunatly she was not able as the nurses gave her the wrong information and she herself was to bussy. This is sad to think that a person comes to a hospital to be taken care of with values that they promise but cant even assist with a minor. I ask again why will a partent refuse healthcare for their own child?
