Bad Treatment
I just thought i should share my traumatic experience at Life Bedfordview Gardens, when i think of my 1st and 2nd day at that hospital my heart still bleeds.
Just the other day my mom and I discussed the fact that i actually need counselling before my sick leave expires [i’m still waiting for a highly qualified individual to help me]
On the 26th September 2024, i was admitted at the above mentioned hospital for a Myomectomy Surgery by Dr AB Oyebajo [Bedford Hospital Jasmine Ward to be specific]
All seemed to be going well until i was wheeled back from Theatre back to the Jasmine Ward. I think, that’s when i regained consciousness. My mother and my uncle’s wife were the first visitors i noticed. This was around 19:15, how i recall this is because it was the last visiting hour for that particular day.
Fast forward, i asked for water. A jar of water arrives without a drinking glass. That time I was so thirsty we asked for a glass from the coloured nurse [which i now believe her name is Tarryn] she asked one of the kitchen staff to bring one. I was so thirsty the glass was taking forever to arrive, luckily my uncle was drinking bottled water and still had the empty bottle with him [his wife used that bottle and poured in water from the jar for me to drink] it was so difficult for me to even drink from that bottle she asked for a drinking straw too…
I’ve never had a C-Section before and everything was just foreign to me. Both my hands had drips, on my left i had the morphine and on my right hand was blood drip. My uncle’s wife advised me not to move too much to avoid injuring myself. Here and there she’d tell me about her experience with c-section she had years back. Tarryn then asked them to leave as visiting hours were over [cool, they left] my uncle needed to use his phone at reception before heading back to the car, they noticed that some visitors were still around the other rooms [no one told them to leave] they left …
Tarryn came to do her round checks and the blood drip was finished and she then has to replace it with another liquid drip [looked like water] i asked her for water [mind you, I’m still waiting for the glass]
her response was, and i quote: “what’s wrong with your hands? Are they broken?” Did i not get shocked 😳 she went on to say: “how am i supposed to pour the water in this bottle?” She then moved closer to me to try pour the water in the bottle i got from my uncle right next to my bed spilled some water on my bed and went “sorry” her last words to me were: “this is the last time I’m pouring water for you, going forward you must do it yourself. Your hands are not broken.”
At this point, the jar of water was finished. I asked her for a refill [Her response was you drinking too much water] she then proceeded back to the drip, kept making remarks about how the drip suddenly got blocked, changed machines 3 times when and adjusted the settings. She then said she’ll come back later to check on the drip… she left
Another nurse came in my room also doing her rounds. She noticed that the settings on my drip was not properly set. She asked [who set this drip? Do you know by the time this drop finishes it will be tomorrow night around 10pm?]
She then adjusted the settings [the drip was suddenly unblocked] i asked her for water the water came, i then, asked for a glass again…. At this point my BP was just dropping, when my mom left my BP was at 108/64 and i have pictures to proof this. I sent my mom a voice note on WhatsApp to inform her of my treatment incase anything happened to me, so she can sue the hospital. My BP went down to 87 from 108…
I then, kept my cool as i just wanted to make it out there alive. Even on rate the hospital, i played nice cause at that time i feared for my life.
The next day my mom complained to a lady [not sure if it’s the hospital manager or what] she promised to speak to her and said she’ll make sure she comes and apologized to me. Tarryn [the coloured lady] on that particular night ignored me as though I didn’t exist. No apology from her as expected or rather assured from her manager.
I reviewed my hospital stay again on the Life Bedford Garden website and the same lady called me this past Monday. I told her Tarryn never apologized for her behaviour and she reassured me that she’ll speak to her and the rest of the team..
She went as far as saying, I cannot move her to another hospital she might do the same thing there I need to train and discipline her here. Quite frankly, I don’t believe her. She also mentioned that Tarryn is hired by an Agency. I’d really love to have a chat with that agency manager.
Imagine being ill treated while in pain and needing water at the same time. Still shocked from the surgery. Mind you, at that time my Dr had ordered two more extra units of blood.. and I had these machines on my legs 🦵 that were vibrating… Yoh!!!
The whole procedure was done to help me conceive. - Should and when I fall pregnant want to give birth Jasmine Ward or that hospital? - What if they kill both myself and my baby? - Will my mother trust them alone with me? - What if that other nurse didn’t notice that my drip needed to be readjusted, then my blood started clotting and I died?
[one thing for sure, my voice note was going to be used in court as evidence by my uncle who’s a lawyer] you don’t receive this kind of treatment from the government hospital, I’m very disgusted 🤮 that I received such a bad experience from a private hospital.
I think Tarryn needs to be sent back to her recruitment agency and stop working at that hospital or any other hospital stay home for 6 months. In that 6 months she must just attend training on how to treat patients and their family/friends. This will be a perfect example that next time another nurse decides to ill treat patients they’ll be fired ..
Thank You for responding. A week or two ago I missed the hospital’s calls [that was it, I thought they’d call back or text].
I really? Truly hopes and pray that the lady is attending training on how to treat patients..
It’s now my 5th week post op and next week I have my Dr’s appointment. I’m relieved at the fact that the Dr’s rooms are right across the main hospital. I work down the road from the hospital, I am going to do my own follow up somehow.
I also picked up that they disrespect my Dr because he’s not South African. I saw how disappointed he was that they never removed blood drain tube [i had on the left hand side of my tummy] he found my gown soaking wet with blood dripping from the tube thing. When he addressed it out of disappointment they gave him funny looks.
The hospital in general seems ok, you can tell by the way it was packed. Tarryn gave me the ****** vibe [sorry to throw in the race card] it’s just that I noticed alot ofred flags during my 3 days of been admitted.
The stuff needs to learn to respect and follow Dr’s orders.
