Bad care, no post-hospital treatment plan
Good day
My daughter Kaitlyn Alexander was admitted to Life Wilgeheuwel on 15 March, and received such shockingly bad treatment.
Staff were dismissive, ucaring, unempathetic and some just downright rude. She was and still is in severe pain, which she communicated and was only given Stilpane. At one point, when telling the nurse about her pain, the nurse just shrugged it off and said 'Ok'.
My daughter wasn't treated with respect, nor validated for her pain and experience. Tests came back normal, so instead of genuinely seeking to find answers for her condition, she was treated like she didn't matter.
We had her admitted as she had weakness in her legs and arms, yet staff didn't care enough to assist her with going to the toilet or taking a bath. A wheel chair wasn't provided in the ward, only upon discharge. During her hospitalisation, we were not given any updates about her condition, treatment, cost, whatsoever.
Even upon discharge, the diagnosis was not shared with us - she had to read her file to find out! We were not even given a post-hospitalisation treatment plan - bearing in mind her condition didn't improve in hospital.
I'm so disappointed, and can kick myself for bringing her back here. In late 2021 she was admitted here, and the experience was the same: lack of communication, empathy and care; discharge without a treatment plan or discussion.
It's like people are seen as volumes being pushed through a machine to make targets. Is this how health care is supposed to be?
My daughter is home now but she is still sick and still needs help. I'm at a loss and don't know where to turn. I need a resolution, as its neither just nor fair that Wilgeheuwel gets to treat people this way, and we just pay and go away.
