(POPI Act) Breach - Life Glynnwood hospital

POPI act breach

I was admitted on the 31st July 2024 and discharged at glynnwood hospital on the 05 August 2024 after undergoing treatment for an operation and I was in the orthopedic ward (North).

After being discharged I was given my x-rays and scans along with another patients x-rays. So on the x-rays of the other patient I was in possession of his: Full name and Surname Medical aid details ID number The patients physical x-rays that he had done in the hospital.

I tried to have them returned to the hospital and called their number on the 16th August at 09:30 am, where I was assisted by the receptionist name Juney Van Rensburg who promised to get management to give me a call back. I made another attempt on the same Friday at 14:25 pm where she advised that she's passed on the message and they would get back to me.

To date no feedback has been given. To add insult to injury I feel that the service is poor. You ring for a nurse they take their time to attend to you. Upon admission when my drip was inserted they spilled blood on my sheet and it was only changed a few days later when the evening matron was on duty.

This is not my first bad experience. A few months prior my son was admitted to the pediatric ward where I received a survey and complained about:

The uncomfortable bed his mother had to sleep on The TV that wasn't working Poor sanitation in the bathroom etc

I received an apology but clearly after my second visit those surveys prove to be futile and are just sent out as part of a routine.

I took it upon myself to return the patients x-rays to the respective Dr's rooms.

After I have seen the large bills they've sent my medical aid, and taken into consideration the treatment received. I've come to the conclusion that Glynnwood cannot be considered a private hospital.

There are honestly a few staff members who you can see are dedicated and understand that their job is not just a job but a calling namely:

One gentleman that works at reception The porters The cleaners (orthopedic ward) A few of the nurses (orthopedic ward) The guy who drives the golf cart to and from the medical suites

These people can be commended. The rest are there for a salary and lack compassion considering the career paths they have chosen.
