Bad service
My daughter was booked and ready to deliver her baby at Glynnwood Hospital yesterday. She is covered by Discovery Medical Aid, and all arrangements were in place ahead of time. When she arrived at the hospital, the staff refused to assist or admit her — purely due to a communication breakdown between two doctors. Instead of resolving the issue or providing care, they called an ambulance and sent her away to a state hospital to give birth. This is completely unacceptable. A labouring mother should never be turned away or left without care because of internal miscommunication between medical professionals. It is dangerous, inconsiderate, and a total failure of patient care. We trusted this hospital to provide a safe, supportive environment for the birth, and instead she was sent away in a vulnerable, urgent situation. There was no regard for her well-being, the baby, or the fact that she had made all necessary arrangements with Discovery medical aid. I am deeply disappointed and concerned about the level of care and professionalism shown here. I hope no other family has to go through this kind of experience during such a special and important moment. Extremely poor care and total lack of compassion.

Worst hospital experience ever
The worst hospital experience I have encountered from a private hospital. I was taken by ambulance to the casualty for a suspected heart attack. In extreme chest pains, sweating, numbness of the body. Upon entering casualty, we were greeted by staff, who complained to the ambulance staff, of why they did not call before arriving. Which was done, in my home before going there. A very caring doctor saw me and requested for tests to be done, and the results confirmed that I indeed suffered a heart attack and requested I get admitted into high care, until a Cardiologist sees me in the morning. Admissions then demanded R1500, to be paid prior to admission. We informed them that they need to get authorisation from my medical aid, the repose was this is a co payment. In desperation for treatment, I paid the amount and was admitted. Out of the 3 staff that treated me, 2 need proper training on communication, treatment and care. The male nurse Vamo was amazing. He treated me with respect and truly cares for patients. As for the other 2, there was no interaction at all, I was refused water, food and allowed to make contact with my family and work to advise them I was in the hospital or assistance when required. The response I got was. “I was late today for work” “We are over worked and under paid” “ Why are you asking us to smile or greet you, you must smile and greet if you want. They did nothing to make my stay as pleasant or comfortable. I had a double stent inserted into my arteries at around 8.30am and discharged at 12pm. The brilliant staff Vamo saw it fit to keep me longer as I was still bleeding excessively. I received no communication from the Cardiologist Dr M.D Mashilo for a follow up appointment, the chronic medication that he prescribed was not updated with my medical aid. I need to now go back to him, no dietician saw me, no out of hospital care was communicated. My medical Aid confirmed that NO CO Payments was required, when they queried this with the hospital. They were told it’s an error and I must contact them for a refund.

The Glynwood Hospital Accounts department doesnt exist
i was admitted for an emergency on 03.05. had to pay R2700 before i could see a doctor, since i dont have savings available on my medical aid. Overall Hospital experience was great. then the account part comes. i was discharged 8.05 already, have been battling a week just to get the hospital invoice to be able to try and claim the R2700 back from GAP cover. No one, answers the phone in accounts for the last week. Friday i was told the lady left early. today i have been trying since 10 am, now 11:11 no one answers, switchboard cant transfer the call to any supervisor, manager, financial manager no one, you just need to hang with it and wait until someone is willing to answer the phone to get help. i would love to know, if the accounts people claim anything back, if they also get to battle like patients do. keeping in mind, if we dont pay our medical aids, they will not pay the hospitals, if the hospitals dont get paid, they dont have jobs, the accounts department is just as important as the whole hospital. all the good that was done is now null and void due to bad service, so sad.....

So my wife arrives at the hospital as she started bleeding as we recently found out she’s pregnant
So my wife arrives at the hospital as she started bleeding as we recently found out she’s pregnant. She took herself straight to the emergencies and I was in the middle of Johannesburg then had to travel to Randburg by the time I did my necessary collections and got to the hospital she still hadn’t seen a doctor. With that said that’s now a 2 hour window. Don’t get me wrong the staff are very friendly and polite just your security would’ve ended up in a body bag by trying to prevent me from seeing my wife. With this now being said she’s been here since before 11am as I’m writing this it’s now 6:38pm and only now has the gynaecologist managed to see her. This is her very first pregnancy as we’ve been struggling to have children. And to receive this form of “prompt” service and I can guarantee this is going to put a massive dent in my medical aid. I am very unsatisfied with the quality of service and the process of actually getting someone to see my wife.

Life Glynnwood Hospital not a good experience
Medical aid claims rejected because they do not submit the claims for the doctors and blood work on the correct dates. It is mission impossible to get hold of the case manager to assist. Was also not treated well by nursing staff. Unfortunately a Discovery Keycare patient does not have a choice of hospitals.

Attitude from Dr's
I don't know how to adress this but i need to get things of my mind. No respect for patients nor their visitors. Certain things being done without concent and they only showed the attitude of doing the patient and the family a favour. I will be making a appoinment with case manager and will let my mind & heart speak for them self. But this hospital i will not recommend to anyone worst experience we had as a family

Money making scheme!
Over the last two years I have used the Glynnwood Hospital numerous times without any complaints. However, the treatment received at the ER Department was substandard and a waist of not only time, but money. The Doctor insisted on doing a Costly Brain CT Scan even though I said it won't indicate that there is a problem with my Brain Shunt. She told me to go see my Neurologist or Neurosurgeon in 2026, despite all the pain and discomfort I am in. She gave me a prescription for medication that I have tried before that doesn't work. High Intercranial Pressure of the Cerebrospinal Fluid around the Brain causes severe headaches, nausea, earache and problems with your eyes. It needs to be drained surgically by a Lumbar Punch or Replacing the Brain Shunt.
