Being charged to fix a problem that laptop had when purchased

My old laptop was giving me endless problems so my husband bought me a new one for Christmas. As a pensioner you can imagine that this was a very expensive present and took a big chunck out of our savings. We discovered that whenever she burnt a disc it would not playback either on the computer or on the DVD player, it just froze. We took the laptop to the Lenovo agents “PartServe” in Montague Gardens and received a quote including VAT of R484.50 for labour to reload the software. The machine had obviously been sold to my husband with faulty software and it was returned just over 2 months after purchase so I questioned this charge and was told that software was not covered under the warranty. After laying out over R8000 for the laptop we are now expected to pay nearly R500 to have a problem which came with the machine sorted out. I sent emails to 2 addresses at their head office in Johannesburg and despite sending a follow up I have still not had the courtesy of a response. I have just received an email telling me that the laptop is ready for collection and I am still expected to pay for a problem that was on the machine when I bought
