*********** and Unprofessional Nursing Staff

I recently had a baby at Lenmed Shifa Hospital in Durban and was appalled at the treatment received from the nurses in the maternity ward. They are extremely unprofessional and would take very long to respond to the emergency bell, sometimes even coming and switching it off without responding to my request for assistance. They would forget to give me medication and delay when I reminded them about it, which resulted in me being in extreme pain. There were numerous times when my baby was brought to me hungry and without a bottle, and I had to go and arrange for the bottle to be made after my attempts to contact the nurses was ignored. Eventually I was discharged later than all the other patients, for no apparent reason, and therefore the pharmacy was already closed and I had to arrange for someone to fetch my medication the following day which was an inconvenience that could have been avoided had the staff been competent. The last straw was when we went to get the babys birth certificate at the department of home affairs and the hospital had not stamped the maternity certificate and details in the road to health booklet were filled in incorrectly. Utterly horrified and disappointed!
