Complaint Regarding Poor Service and Care for Mrs. R Moonsamy

Dear Management of Nu Shifa Hospital,

Good day. I am writing on behalf of my mother, Mrs. R Moonsamy, to express our deep disappointment with the level of service and care she received during her recent stay at your hospital.

Mrs. Moonsamy was admitted on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Since her admission, our experience has been fraught with difficulties and poor service. We have struggled to maintain contact with her, despite calling the hospital multiple times each day. The staff failed to relay our messages, and on several occasions, we were left on hold for hours.

The food provided to my mother was another significant issue. On Saturday afternoon, she was served dry toast. Sunday’s meals included oily butternut curry for lunch and oily chips for supper. On Monday, she was given oily mixed vegetables, which the nurses referred to as soup, and more dry toast for supper. Tuesday’s meals consisted of a baked potato with egg and dry toast for supper. As a vegetarian, my mother does not consume eggs, making this meal unacceptable. Furthermore, the overall quality and healthiness of the food were extremely poor and inappropriate for a hospital setting. My mother vomited after nearly every meal.

Adding to our concerns, my mother was not served any fruit during her stay. Additionally, Dr. Latiff, who was assigned to her care, did not conduct a proper examination. Instead, he merely asked questions and recorded her responses without a thorough assessment.

For a private hospital, the service and care provided were appalling. We demand an explanation for the substandard service and an outline of how these issues will be resolved to prevent future occurrences. My mother was discharged on Wednesday in a worse condition than when she was admitted.

We expect a prompt response addressing our concerns.
