Disappointed beyond words

I purchased a loaf of 2.25kg Lancewood Cheddar Cheese from Makro. I took the cheese to Makro and was advised to get in touch directly with Lancewood because Makro has a 7 day return policy on their perishables, which is not transparent anywhere in the store or on their receipt. I called Lancewood and spoke to Chane and was told to send pics and till slip, which is what I did. The response I received was that the cheese must be consumed within 5 days of opening and how bacteria sets in. How do you consumer 2.25kg cheese in 5 days? There is no disclaimer on the cheese packaging to use it within 5 days either. Unfortunately for me I do not get compensated for my loss.

Dear Razia Thank you so much again for your feedback and reaching out to us. As mentioned in our telephonic conversation, all our cheese labels state that the cheese should be consumed within 5 days, once opened. The expiry date (BB date) represents the shelf life of the product when it remains unopened and sealed.  Once the vacuum seal has been broken, the cheese should be consumed within 5 days to avoid the potential development of surface mould. This is a normal occurrence due to the natural ageing process of cheese, and could be further influenced by the handling of the product and packaging once opened.  Should you wish to keep cheese beyond the 5 days once it has been opened, we suggest first grating it and then storing it in the freezer in a tightly sealed bag.  We take great pride in our commitment to quality and continuously strive to deliver the best products to our valued customers. Warm regards,
The Lancewood Team
