Why do we have Insurance? What is the main purpose?

I had to claim on my phone. Funny, King price... the contractors which they use are more helpful, honest and their service is so much better than King Price. King price charged me a premium for a certain amount, and then mail me a disclaimer to sign with an amount almost R2000 difference. I insured the phone what I paid for it. Isn't it why we ensure our contents... so that we don't take a loss when damaged or ****** or whatever the case may be?

Hi Sandra, we do understand your thinking on the matter, however please always remember with any insurer, that you insure a portable possession and not it's value. You as a client have a responsibility to ensure that the replacement values for your specified possessions are correct and are a true reflection of what the market can offer you for this item. Our responsibility is to indemnify you for a loss. We have done so on this claim, however the item was insured for the incorrect amount and/or depreciated in value over time and therefor we cannot pay you more than what the item is actually worth. We trust the above provides clarity, should you require any further elucidation please do not hesitate to contact.

I don't agree with you. If you have so much knowledge about phones and their value, why did you not share your knowledge with me when I started up the policy? Why did you not tell me that you will only pay what you think it is worth? Why did you not tell me that you will not cover what I paid for the phone? Why keep quiet and just let me pay so much money while you know that I will not get out what I've put in? I am very disappointed I expected more from King price with regards to honesty. So let me ask you this... had I pay less and the phone was worth more... would you have paid me more?
