Unsolicited Calls

Why am I getting calls from your outsourced call centre's? Where do they get my number from? There is no thing like the central consumer database so other than that where did they get my number from? I want to know. I'm a sales person and have associates that I go to for all my financial needs - not to call centre's. I need this to be sorted out right away. The call came at 11H24 from telephone number +***. When one calls this number it goes dead. So I need you to investigate as to exactly how they got my number and who authorized them to call me or I will continue with further measures. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa, the law regulates unsolicited calls, particularly in the context of marketing and telecommunication. Here are the key points regarding this legislation:

Key Provisions of POPIA Relating to Calls Consent Requirement:

Organizations must obtain explicit consent from individuals before sending marketing communications, including phone calls. Opt-Out Mechanism:

Individuals have the right to opt out of receiving unsolicited marketing calls. Companies must provide a clear and simple method for individuals to withdraw their consent. National Opt-Out Register:

The law supports the establishment of a National Opt-Out Register where individuals can register their preference not to receive unsolicited marketing calls. Information Regulator:

The Information Regulator oversees compliance with POPIA and can take action against companies that violate the provisions regarding unsolicited calls. Accountability:

Organizations are required to demonstrate accountability for how they handle personal information, including obtaining consent for communications. Rights of Individuals Right to Privacy: Individuals have the right to privacy, which includes protection against unsolicited marketing communications. Access to Information: Individuals can request information about how their personal data is being used, including data related to telemarketing. Actions Against Violations Individuals can report violations to the Information Regulator, which has the authority to investigate complaints and impose penalties on non-compliant organizations. Conclusion The POPIA aims to protect individuals from unsolicited calls by requiring consent and providing mechanisms for opting out. Understanding these rights can help you take action against unwanted marketing communications effectively.😡🤬

Hi Dennis

We checked the number on Tru Caller and see that the number that called you is a company called ICON Africa and not us directly.

The good news is… We’ve added you to our ‘Don’t contact’ list, so you won’t be contacted by King Price directly in future. We’ve also instructed all our third-party affiliates to remove all your details from their databases immediately.

Because we’ve got your back, we’d like to leave you with some kingly advice:

To ensure you don’t receive any further unsolicited marketing messages and calls from any other company, we advise you to register on the Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) national opt-out register.

Remember, under Section 69 of the Protection of Personal Information Act No. 4 of 2013, traditional telephonic communication is excluded from the definition of ‘electronic communication’ and not prohibited.

We apologise for the inconvenience!
