Unreasonable - Debt Review haters

Good day

I am sending this with a heavy heart. King Price has always been the best insurance company I have ever dealt with. My yearly increases were minimal and they have always been very efficient.

Last year my husband and I decided to go under debt review. The demands of life were just getting to much and so we decided to get some help. Now in 2017 my vehicle premium was increased from R593.71 (2016) to R763.38 (2017). For almost 2 weeks I asked the question to why and later I was advised it is because I am on debt review. It’ s not like I have thousands now in my bank account to pay more for insurance. I feel that this is totally unreasonable. People like myself and many others decide to do something about our debt problems and then you get insurance companies that want to penalise you or even discontinue your insurance because of that. I have never had a problem paying my insurance premium. If I maybe did miss a payment, it could’ve been when I switched banks at the time.

Where is the fairness in this? I am busy looking for insurance elsewhere and I do believe that I will get a better premium elsewhere unless King Price is willing to accommodate me.

Hi Cindy

Our sincerest apologies for the negative experience however there are certain factors our underwriting criteria takes into account when deciding the acceptability of a policy and unfortunately our underwriting criteria/system will not allow acceptance in your case.

We completely understand your frustration and apologise for any inconvenience in this regard.

Reviewer Update

Please note that I am still not satisfied. I have asked your department for the confirmation of to why this increase has been implemented with the words stating that it is because I am on debt review. And still no word from Jonathan Pillay...how pathetic!!! I will contact the Ombudsman regarding this issue.
