Third Party claim settlement THOUSANDS less than quotes and VAT EXCLUSIVE?!

A few months ago, a man drove into the back of my car, as I stopped at a red traffic light while driving my toddler home from daycare.

It was just a fender-bender, and some time passed before I was able to address the issue with his insurance, King Price.

They asked me to get 3 quotes, as well as a lot of other paperwork, which took further weeks to amass and send through, and then told me it would be 3 weeks until settlement.

In the interim, I was forced to take the car in for some other repairs, and opted to have the fender-bender seen to at the same time (to save time on being without a vehicle), assuming that the settlement would be at least the lowest quote that I had received, as I had no reason to assume differently.

Today, I received a settlement value that is THOUSANDS less than my quotes, thousands less than the quote I received from the SAME AUTOBODY SHOP that they recieved their quote from, and (to add insult to injury) is VAT exclusive,

When I queried the settlement value, I was told that "I am welcome to take it to [their autobody shop] who will fix it in line with that quote" but that I will have to "wait a further 10 days" if I insist on being paid out the VAT.

This is just unacceptable.

Their client drove into my car. He is in the wrong here.

I have jumped through every single hoop they laid out in front of me, collecting quotes and photos and paperwork for several weeks.

Not once was I given to understand that I would be obliged to go a repairer of their choice.

Not once was I given to understand that the eventual settlement would be VAT exclusive.

Now that I am querying this settlement in the very strongest terms, the man I have been dealing with has gone silent.

I am sick and tired of being mishandled by King Price, and I am minutes away from phoning my lawyer and handing this over to them. In the interim, as I promised him, I am taking this to HelloPeter and as many social media avenues as I can reach, until they settle the full value of the claim (including VAT!) to repair my car and restore it to the way it was before their client damaged it.

Hi Sigrid
A third party claims is a legal process and takes longer to process than a normal insurance claim. We try to finalise third party claims within 3 - 4 weeks. We note that we received the forms back from you on the 18th of April and therefore the duration of your claim fell within that period.
We received 3 quotes from yourself with the following totals : R 10 703.12, R 12 568.87 & R 22 259.40
Our assessor reassessed the damage and came to a total of R 9887.62 including vat, our sincerest apologies due to an error VAT was not included in your settlement letter this has been rectified.
The invoice you sent us after having repaired your vehicle already equated to an amount of R9890.34 the difference in settlement and cost incurred by you being a difference of R2.72 and not (thousands) as stated by you in your complaint.
We trust the above is in order, should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact our legal department.
Royal regards

This resolution came about only AFTER I was told that it would take 10 further days to have the VAT amount added to the paltry settlement, and was not an administrative error as you state here. I was told that it is policy to exclude VAT because the insurer would not pay VAT to the repairer, and it was only when I pointed out that the transaction would be happenening between myself and the repairer was I told that they "would see if [they] could get authorisation".
Obviously, this was fast-tracked because of my complaint over email, here on HelloPeter and over on Facebook.
So I guess I should say "thank you" for only short changing me R3, after I had to make a huge fuss?
Well, I'll take it, as I have no other options, but King Price will remain a company that I will never willingingly choose to work with again.
