Poor Justification For Claim Refusal

I recently dropped my laptop, the screen was flickering and the bottom corner of the bezel was cracked.

Being insured through King Price I lodged a claim. I was told by Jack Baloyi to package it up and allow The Notebook Company to send a courier to collect. The parcel was collected on Friday and one week later I had still not heard back. I called in and requested feedback and was informed that the agent working on my case would get back to me. I did not get a response. After the 10th day I called in again and was passed from agent to agent until my agent was available.

I was asked if the laptop had been repaired before (in a very condescending tone), I responded that it had been prior to insuring it and I had specified this at the time I made my claim - I was then informed that my claim would not be covered as the laptop had been tampered with, TAMPERED. The agent then went on to recommend that the bezel gets replaced but I'd have to pay for it myself, again quoting the tampering as the reason.

I instructed them to return my laptop to me and I would sort it out myself. I received a call from Jack the next day informing me that they have sent instruction to The Notebook Company to return it to me and then, almost as a side note, that King Price would not be insuring it going forward. About an hour later I was called by the accounts department and told that they have received notification that I would like (LIKE) to update my policy... did the claims agent have the authority to inform me that my item was no longer insured? I will hazard a guess and say no. I basically had to convince them to remove the laptop from my policy and also requested that they remove my mobile phone as well - I gave the reason that I didn't see the sense in insuring an item only to have them refuse a claim over prior condition - specified goods are heavily used and are likely to in a state of wear when a claim is submitted - once again I had to stick to my guns in order to have these items removed.

As of today the only communication I have received from King Price is the following text:

"We have your details, have registered your claim and hope to soon have you smiling again! CKP ********** /1 Regards Jack Baloyi *** **********
No damage report, no updated policy schedule, no paperwork indicating refusal of claim.

King Price did an exceptional job of convincing me to move from my prior insurance company, they sold the whole package and then used the condition of the item to justify refusing my claim - NONE of my stuff was appraised at the time of initiation and no request was put in for me to have it done. I feel that i was bamboozled into taking out comprehensive cover and then gaslighted when it became time to claim.

The attitude of the people I dealt with was the polar opposite of the sales consultants I spoke to when I changed over as well.

Also, my installment came off on the 25th of the month and I cancelled my insurance on my mobile and laptop around the third, surely I am due my premium back as these items were taken off??? I'd like to have my premium refunded for February from the day I cancelled my coverage.

Overall a terrible experience and I feel like an absolute idiot because I've recommended King Price to so many people based on their premiums alone, I feel like i've roped my friend into a ponzi scheme. Based on my dealings and the attitude of the people I dealt with I will be moving my household contents insurance elsewhere as well as motorvehicle insurance.

Thank you for the horrible experience, now please refund my money.

Regards, Byron Voogt.
