No cover for my insured laptop

I am in complete distress regarding my claim of my ****** laptop. My laptop was left concealed in my car underneath the passenger seat AND covered with a pink towel, overnight on Sunday 10th December. The car window was smashed to ***** the laptop. When discovered, I immediately reported the incidence on the local Observatory Crime watch group, called the police and reported it to King Price. An inspector (Mick Helena) from King Price contacted me the following Tuesday asking for photos of the car, police case number etc. In these photos, the pink towel can be clearly seen ruffled on the floor behind the passenger seat. I sent all required documents to Mick and felt no concern about my claim being rejected. I have now been told that my claim for my ****** laptop worth R24 000 and insured for R28 000 since 2015 with King Price has been rejected as it was not locked in the glove compartment or boot. My boot is not covered and my glove compartment too small. I am absolutely flabbergasted and would like to take this matter further. I am horrified as I am a dedicated client and I have ALWAYS paid my insurance. This was a first time incidence as I am usually very careful with these things. I had spent the Sunday afternoon scrubbing a house getting it ready for guests in Fish Hoek, came home late in the evening with a screaming 4 year old and a dodery 85 year old father. It was an honest mistake. King Price knows that my car is parked in the street in Observatory.

I feel traumatised by this as not only have I lost my entire life that was on my laptop, but now my insurers wont cover it. It was a work computer and I will therefore need to replace it - which is impossible without insurance money for this claim. Thank you

Dear Elloise.

We never like hearing that our clients have had a bad experience and note that your claim was rejected due to policy exclusion.

The matter is currently being reviewed by the dispute department who will provide you with feedback regarding the outcome of their review.

Royal regards

The Kings Court.

The Ombudsman from KP has rep****, confirming the rejection of my claim. I am astounded. My car does not have a closed boot and the glove compartment is too small for the laptop. Under the seat was definitely the safest spot to conceal the laptop. Also, the wording of my policy says laptops should be concealed in an unoccupied car in a place such as the boot or glove compartment. This means there are various different places to conceal a laptop. In this case, the best place was under the seat. In addition, we have insurance for our goods for accidents/mistakes/******ies that take place in our lives. For example, motor vehicle accidents are usually a mistake. Insurance pays out for this. But not my for my laptop which I mistakenly left concealed under the seat. I m very disappointed with KP and will be terminating my policy with them shortly. Currently this case has gone to OSTI and I await the outcome from their Ombudsman.
