King Price Insurance not adhering to the POPI Act

As a Financial Advisor who is being regulated heavily with regards to the POPI Act that may not contact any person without his or her consent, I just received a call from King Price Insurance.

I politely asked the lady where King Price Insurance got my number from, where she gave a watered down answer about platforms where I opted in to be called. I then asked which platform, as it is my right to know, she just slammed the phone down in my ear.

How is it possible that these companies can keep on phoning you without your consent? How does the POPI Act then protect our Personal Information? Looks like the POPI Act gets abused by these large companies and they just get away with it. No level playing field in this industry.

Hi there,

POPIA is here… And here’s how to remove your personal info from
marketing databases

King Price (and most other modern businesses) use affiliate companies to run SMS and email marketing campaigns. It’s important to note that we don’t own or contribute to the databases that these affiliates use.

These affiliates should be registered with the Direct Marketing Association of SA, which allows you to opt out of these messages, via their website.

If you want to remove your personal info from these databases, here’s what you need to do:

• Visit their website on : https://www.nationaloptout.org/ContactPreference/RegisterContactPreference
• Make sure that you fill in all your cellphone numbers and email addresses, as well as your ID number.
• Allow about 8 weeks to unsubscribe you from all registered databases.
• You’ll have to unsubscribe again every 3 years.

That’s it!
