King Price - Do not pay out for items that you are covered for

After loosing my fitness watch, I attempted to submit a claim online. I emailed my insurer (King Price) with the particulars of my claim and a receipt of my purchase. With no response more than 24 hours later, I decided to call them.

The lady on the phone declined to call me back. She said if she did, it would be at a much later time as she was busy. Wanting to sort the issue out, I continued with the call. She then told me that I am not covered for unspecified portable items. She said that this was clear in my policy. I asked her to email me the policy and found that she was lying. It clearly states that I am covered for portable unspecified items up to the value of R2000. My watch cost me 105USD, as I bought it on a business trip in the US. This equates to R1500. The call was over 16 minutes long , at which point she attempted to transfer me to someone else, to "explain to me". I then put the phone down as I felt that King Price should be covering the cost of this call, not me.

I am astonished that I was **** to by the company representative and will be changing my insurer. I do not feel I can trust King Price to pay out if something more valuable was ****** from my home. If they are not willing to pay for a low value item such as my watch then how can they be trusted which my home contents. How do I get them to pay out for my watch which I am clearly covered for?

Hi Luke

Our claims department has been in contact with you, unfortunately you do not enjoy unspecified portable possessions cover under your home contents policy nor is the item claim specified hence you do not enjoy cover for the incident claimed.

"unspecified portable possessions cover" is not an option made available when taking out the policy and the policy schedule leads you to believe you are covered with the following text "Please note: For unspecified portable possession cover, you're covered up to a maximum of R 2,000 per item." This almost seems **********.
