Insurers will be Insurers
I was with King Price for three months as a new driver, and while I understand that young, newly licensed drivers carry higher risk, the premium and excess I was quoted were genuinely difficult to justify — especially when I've since moved to another insurer and I am paying less than half what I was paying King Price, with the same excess.
My bigger frustration isn't the pricing — it's the experience when I called to cancel. I understand that retention consultants are scored on keeping customers, but the call felt more like an interrogation of my decision than a straightforward cancellation. By the end of it I was second-guessing a choice I had already thought through carefully, which shouldn't happen when you've simply decided to move on. It's an uncomfortable position to be put in — you don't want to be rude and tell them to just get on with it, but you also shouldn't have to defend yourself for leaving. That experience alone means I won't be considering King Price again, even as my risk profile improves over time.
There was also an ongoing issue with a claim on my profile. A windscreen chip repair — which is supposed to be covered at no cost — was apparently recorded in a way that showed as a "R3,000 windshield repair claim" when pulled through to other insurers. That caused unnecessary complications during my transition and took significant back-and-forth with support to try and resolve. It still isn't something I feel was fully handled correctly. King Price may work well for some people, but between the premium, the cancellations experience, and the claim recording issue, I can't recommend them based on my time with them.
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that parts of your experience, particularly around cancellation and the claim recording, fell short of expectations. That’s certainly not the way we want our clients to feel.
We understand your concerns around premiums for new drivers and respect your decision to move to an insurer that better suited your needs. Your comments about the retention call and the windscreen claim are especially valuable, and we’ll be sharing this internally for review.
Our Retentions team will be in contact to discuss your concerns.
Royal regards,
The Kings Court
