The store is robbing people!

I've just tried to purchase the King Meal at the N1 city branch. The lady behind the counter asked me if I wanted to "Upsize" the meal. I asked her how much it would cost and what it entails. I was purchasing 2 meals, and she told me it would cost me R2.50 each, and that I would get a larger soft drink and large chips for each meal.

When it came time to pay, I noticed that an extra charge had been added to the total, and when I queried her she ONLY THEN explained that the upsize cost was in fact R5 per meal, since apparently customers are charged extra for sugary drinks. Not once was this mentioned, nor was any of this visible on the interactive signboards in the store from which I made my selection.

I refused to pay the extra cost, and my upsize was removed, and the sales lady swapped out the drinks for smaller ones.

This marketing practice is highly deceptive and I'll be telling all my friends and family to avoid this store like the plague.

When I went to Pie City to check, they don't charge extra for sugary drinks, and their staff is friendly and helpful. I'll rather avoid fast foods altogether if this is the ******* that gets hoisted on the unsuspecting consumer.

I'll be referring the deceptive advertising to the ASA for further investigation.
