King Dinuzulu (formerly King George) State Hospital.

On the 14th September 2021 at approximately 17h30 my 97-year-old mother was rushed by ambulance to a private hospital in Durban after suffering two suspected strokes. My sister accompanied and gave the ambulance staff my mother’s medical aid details. However even with this information in their procession the ambulance managed to take my mother to a private hospital instead of a state one.

I drove from the South Coast to join my sister and arrived at said hospital t approximately 19h00 in an attempt o sort out the debacle.

I was eventually informed that unless I paid (an astronomical fee) they could do nothing further and I would have to personally move her to a state hospital. I refused to take on this responsibility and insisted that they made the necessary arrangements for her to be moved and I would not leave until this was done.

It was the early hours of the morning before an ambulance eventually arrived to transfer my mother to King Dinuzulu (formerly King George) State Hospital.

The staff were friendly, helpful and caring even though it was the early hours of the morning. My mother was settled in a ward and made comfortable.

Trips to the hospital to take whatever was needed was effortless, the hospital was always clean with good security and friendly staff to deal with at all times.

My mother unfortunately passed away on the 20th September 2021 and even the retrieval from the hospital mortuary was conducted professionally and with dignity.

So it’s a BIG thank you to all the staff, doctors and mortuary staff that attended to my mother during her short stay at your facility.
