Deposit Rentention

Since my previous post on 12 Jun, there has been no progress towards retrieving my deposit. They want to keep R5000 of R10000, having taken most of the deposit out of an extra month's rent that I paid before a new tenant moved in early. <br> I (nevyoungatstarwadersdotcom) was given a list of concocted repairs as well as a 30% contribution towards repainting with the owner paying 70%. I spoke to the owner who knows nothing of this - thus a ********** deposit deduction. I was only given quotes by JRL to justify deductions - no invoices. The current tenant tells me that none of the repairs have been done. The owner has contacted JRL saying I had been a good tenant for nearly 8 years and am not responsible to pay for any repairs. <br> The matter smells of connivance and conflict of interest in attempts to de***** clients of their deposits. I will be making my submission to the Housing Tribunal and the Estate Agents Board in the next few days. I know of a hearing scheduled soon. It may be that JRL does not fear these organisations because there are too few complaints. People experiencing this treatment ought to raise their voices and bring this behaviour to the attention of the authorities.
