Treated like a ********

Me and my friend visited the Jet Mart store in Town Centre Mitchells Plain, I went to purchase a paint brush. My friend had a closed packet of Lays chips with him which he purchased outside by the stalls before we entered the store, I got the goods I needed and proceeded to the till points when he told me he was going to go wait outside for me. In the meantime he had opened his packet of chips and was eating it when he left the store. I was still at the till point, the security followed him outside and went to fetch him, and requested his till slip for the chips which he didn't have because he didn't purchase it at any store. I finished my purchases and approach the door to exit where security was interrogating him because according to them he stole it. They said they must view the footage to see if he entered the store with it, I told them they should do it. They advised he was supposed to declare the chips upon entering the store, he wasn't aware that they do sell the chips in store so he didn't see the need to do so. We were waiting at the door for approximately 15-20min for them to view footage before we could leave, in that time every single customer that entered the store got that impression that we were *********, I felt very embarrassed by this. Only after the incident every single customer which had a handbag or backpack with them was asked if they had any sweets or chips they wanna declare before entering why was it only being asked after the incident took place? The store manager was doing his floor walk during the time, which I approached him, and explained the situation to him and he said it's ok we may leave the store. I don't even know how I'll be able to go and visit the store again after what has happened. Every time that will be the kind off "look" people will give when they see you at that store. I find that as very bad especially for a big branded store like JetMart. Yes I do understand it's a high crime rated area but they could've handled the matter differently and asked him apon entering the store, not go get him outside.
