Laybye lapses with no notice

Hello Peter

On 8 September 2017 I opened a laybye at Jetmart Church Street in Pretoria. On the 11th of December I made a part payment, and told the cashier I will come after January holidays and pay off the remaining balance and collect a 49 inch Hisense TV, which I laybye while on special for R4999. When I arrived in store on Wednesday, 10 January to pay off R2000 balance and collect the tv, I was told the laybye has been terminated as it exceeded the 3 months period! ! Amazingly, I wasn't told on 11 December that 3 months has lapsed so I must pay off the remaining balance on that day and collect my tv, which I could hve done. The "supervisor " Maggy, told me this week that the cashier might have been "busy" as it was a festive season and didn't check any laybye details, and it is my fault because I should have known that laybye is only valid for 3 months. The only option is a gift voucher refund, or buy the tv for R5999, which is R1000 more, as it is now selling at normal price. She even told me I'm wasting her time and must accept the favour of a gift voucher if I can't pay additional R3000 on the R3000 I already paid...the matter got a reference number ********** 2073/GO which has never been responded to since Wednesday after logging a call with Edcon. I asked for the laybye terms and conditions, she never had any but said there's no cash refund at Jetmart. The pathetic service is just sad. I have been buying at this group for many years dating 2005! They just don't care at all and why they never mentioned it's strictly 3 months and if not settled, will pay the full normal price??
