Jet refusing to sell cellphone if i dont rica and dont abide by Jet company policy

I went to Jet today to buy a new cellphone, and right out of the gate, I am told I need to rica a cellphone. I told the people there Straight up, that the rica act covers sim card registrations, NOT CELLPHONES! They told me that company policy says I have to activate the cellphone and rica a sim card before I can buy the phone. First off, what kind of bull**** is this where I am told they need to activate a cellphone! Cellphones dont need activation, SIM CARDS DO! I came there to buy a phone, not buy a sim card.

2. Telling me that THEY have to activate the phone before I am allowed to buy it, what precisely are they wanting to do with the phone and the settings that I am not allowed to operate the phone myself. Or is the phones of such a low substandard quality, or a cheap knockoff that there is a high failure rate that they need to "activate" (in otherwords test that the phone works)

Then I am told that they have no problem putting in my own sim into the phone but that they have to activate the sim card and phone first by ricaing an unneeded and unwanted sim first.

ANY TIME a phone needs to be activated with a sim card, in the few cases that I know off, is phones where the sim cannot be removed or changed without the phone itself not working.

This is the LAST time I am going to attempt to buy a phone at ANY Jet, as it is better to get the phone from Takealot, where the phones are NOT networked locked, with no vendor loaded bloatware, that cannot be uninstalled, and who knows what else Jet put on their phones.

Or were they planning to sell my information on top of what they were trying to force me to hand over, in violation of the POPI act, and by abusing the Rica act in the process!
