Charged for imaginary artime for 14 months

I have recently realised something was wrong with my Jet / Edcon account.

I did let my account go into arrears when I had some financial trouble but I picked up payments again as soon as I could. Each month I paid anything between R350 and R700 and the debt didn't seem to go away. I figured it was just interest since I had neglected to pay my account for a while.

In the month of April I settled my account by paying more than R400 and asked the cashier if she could close my account to which she rep**** that she could not, since the money first had to reflect as paid and it could take a day or two. She told me to remember to phone before the 7th of May to avoid being charged for insurance etc. I was annoyed, but I accepted it. It slipped my mind and I did not call to cancel my account and by the time I realised, I thought it wouldn't be an issue as it couldnt cost more than R100 odd to settle the account and close it.

I received numerous calls from Jet's debt collectors while on a business trip in the month of June and was told that the balance I had to pay was more than R400 again. Outraged, I enquired how it could be possible for me to owe that much since I had not bought ANYTHING in the month. I was told that it was for things like insurance and an airtime subscription. (I had queried this subsription before as I had not received airtime on a monthly basis from Jet since I subscribed for this service) I asked for a manager to contact me and explain how I could owe the company money after not purchasing or receiving anything from them.

Between waiting, missing calls and being contacted at really inconvenient times, the problem never got resolved and I partially blaimed myself for not following up. I sucked it up last Saturday (25 June 2016) I went and with a light heart and optimism to pay the final R480 odd to settle my account. I asked the cashier if she could close my account while I was there and she told me that she could not since it was a Saturday. I understood and asked her to give me a number I could dial to do this without having to go into a shop.

Life happened and I was only able to contact Jet today (29 June 2016) after 4 failed attempts, I finally got through to a consultant. I confirmed my personal details and requested that my account be closed. I was told that I COULD NOT CLOSE MY ACCOUNT BECAUSE I STILL OWED R110.23 on my account. After ranting about how I had just settled my account, I was told that the money was deducted from my account due to an airtime subscription. I told the consultant that I had NEVER received the airtime I had been billed for every month and that I had brought it up before.

The consultant told me that the subscription had been active since APRIL 2015... That is R1557,22 I have paid for imaginary airtime that I have never received!!!!!! The consultant told me that he would be reporting the matter to someone in a different department and asked that I hold the line for a few minutes. After holding for nearly 11minutes, my airtime ran out and I have not been called back with a response.
