Land Rover Customer Care that is anything but Customer Care.

Travelling down to Cape Town from Johannesburg in my Discovery 4 HSE SDV6 on Friday the 10th March I picked up a vibration on the steering, which at first I put down to road surface. When I app**** brakes, it turned into a bad wobble as if the brake discs was warped.

When I stopped in Cape Town smoke poured out from the left front wheel.

First thing on Saturday 11th morning I took the car to Land Rover in Cape Town CBD and met with the DP (dealer principle) Clinton who told me the problem was considered as an emergency safety issue, but he had no one who could help me so I must come back on Monday.

On Monday 13th I checked the car in and asked for a loan vehicle which I was told they couldn’t help me. I then spoke to Clinton who call the (I assume) workshop manager and told him it was an urgent repair. At about 14h54 I got a call from a service person who told me that they couldn’t find the problem but they were in contact with Land Rover head office. I again asked them to supply a loan vehicle because I had a meeting arranged in Darling on Tuesday and I needed to get there. Sorry can’t (or wouldn’t) help me.

On Tuesday 14th I called Customer Care and spoke to William who promised to call me back which he did at 16h00. Before he could tell me anything we were cut off and he never called me again. In the meantime, I had to hire a car to get to Darling and back.

On Wednesday 15th at 08h51 still had not heard from Land Rover so I called and asked to speak to Clinton (DP) who was too busy to speak to me. Finally, at 09h55 I got a call from the workshop manager who informed me that the brake fluid was contaminated and that virtually the whole braking system needed to be replaced. I informed him that I was checking out my hotel the next morning to travel home. Oh, well he told me that car won’t be going anywhere soon and that I must pay for the repairs since it wasn’t covered by the warrantee or the service plan, but he couldn’t tell me how much it was going to cost. As a matter of interest the car was serviced in August 2016 and the mileage was 44260km. On the trip to Cape Town the mileage went onto 50,000km – only 6,000km since Land Rover Constantia Kloof serviced the car which included new brake pads and brake fluid.

So, to get back to JHB I had to put 4 bicycles and luggage etc. into storage and buy 2 aeroplane tickets to get home on Thursday.

On Friday 17th morning, I called Land Rover Customer Care and spoke to Irene who promised me she would get back to me by close of business same day. Of course, I never got the call.

On Monday 20th I called to speak to Irene to be told that she was on leave so I spoke to David who told me there was no case opened. So I told David the whole story again who also promised to get back to me on Monday.

Needless to say, today is Wednesday 22nd at 09h30 and I still haven’t had a call from Land Rover.
