Land Rover Boksburg Think they better than everyone

It is with great regret that I would like to officially notify Jaguar Land Rover and any part thereof, of my complete dissatisfaction of there service and treatment I have received from Land Rover Boksburg, specifically the its Dealer Principle Bergit and second hand Sales Manager Henry, regarding the deal cancellation of my Range Rover Evoque.

I purchased this vehicle on the 17 May 2016 as gift to my wife for our two year anniversary from the Boksburg dealership, from a salesman Tony Pinho. I received fantastic service from this gentleman. He has been only but trying to resolve the issues that I will discuss in this email with urgency but has no luck due to the support he gets from his superiors.

The vehicle was inspected by myself and Tony before the documents were signed and aesthetic items were pointed out that had to be repaired before I would accept the vehicle.

Items as follows:
Scratch on right rear view mirror
scratches on plastics on to be repaired on wheel arches
Range Rover lettering to be replaced
Rear bumper was loose and clips clearly broken off.
No mechanical defects were mentioned at any point during this inspection and signing of documents, and assumed there would not be any basing it on the fact that it is a purchase from a Land Rover Dealership.

I was assured that all these items would be done before delivery took place at the dealership.

We arrived at the dealership and took delivery of what we thought was an amazing vehicle, noticing that the scratch on the rear view mirror was still there and the rear bumper was still loose, I was told to bring the car back sometime soon in order for them to address these issues.

On the 22 May 2016 we got into the car and it refused to start, I phoned Land Rover assist and they came to jump start the car. After this they mentioned that the battery had to be charged and was advised to drive around for a few minutes before switching off. This was done.

On the 24 May 2016 we went to visit a family member, again when leaving the vehicle wouldn't start. Again, phoned Land Rover Assist and they came to jump start the car.

I returned the vehicle to the dealership the following day asking them to please find the fault in the car as driving this car is causing personal safety risk to my wife as this could leave here stranded somewhere at any stage.

While the vehicle was there for two weeks or more, they found that the battery that was put in was not a genuine Land Rover battery and this was causing the problem of not starting, they also said they replaced the rear bumper, which they didn't and instead used *****s to ***** it down making it look like a rear back door fix up.

While the vehicle was there, the rear diff was making a drone noise and was replaced. This noise was present during the test drive but not having a great deal of knowledge about these vehicle assumed it was normal. The service manager did mention that this could have been a serious problem, if the diff had failed. This is when my concerns on whether I purchased a reliable car had started.

Upon collecting the car I noticed the left passenger rubber mat was missing, clearly was not put back when in the wash bay, they did replace these though when the vehicle came back again for another issue.. That following evening the right front door lock started making unusual noises, so I returned the vehicle again the following day and was told that the locking mechanism was failing. I did mention that they are to please make sure that everything is attended to as my wife drives this vehicle and I can not have a car that I can not rely on.

The repair was done and the vehicle was back in our possession, but also then noticed that the terrain response selector did not work. I did mention this to the service manager and he notified me that he would order one. I am still waiting for this.

A short time after all this, my wife attempted to leave work and the vehicle refused to start. I was close by and called jaguar assist to come jump started the vehicle. I left my work and drove the vehicle directly to the dealership and explained what happened and to please check everything as this was becoming an inconvenience and causing a safety issue again. two days later the service manager had phoned to tell me that they could not find the problem and that everything was testing fine. Surprised at this, I did mention that clearly its not a computer fault and a physical one. I asked to speak to the dealer principle and explained to her in a respectful and dignified manner that I can not have my wife driving a car that gives so many issues, only to be given a smug remark of we do not take vehicle back and its not what we do and finding another one is also not something we do, also telling me that there machines are calibrated regularly. If they cant find the problem then, there is no problem.

With a vehicle that's reliability I could not trust I collected the vehicle from the dealership unsatisfied and quite frustrated. It could not have been more than 4 days and again the vehicle left my wife stranded at work in the late afternoon, I was not near her at this time so I called Jaguar assist once more and they came to jump start the vehicle which also revealed that the technician that was working on the vehicle had left his rags under the bonnet above the battery, we have a photo of this if needed. She made her way home as there the dealer was open at this time. Again the next morning taking time of work I returned the vehicle to the dealer, surprised that it started in the first place. Telling the dealer principle that this is ridiculous I received a shrug attitude and told them to sort it out once and for all, and if anything else should happen we must look at either finding another vehicle or cancel the deal in order for me to go buy something else.

This took them almost a week and the issue was that an electrical wire was loose on the car, causing it not to start. This then posed the question of how safe is this car? Needless to say I took the vehicle praying it would be ok.

The final straw occurred on the 26 August when my wife phoned me in tears stuck on the side of the freeway right by Alexandra, the vehicle had instructed her to stop as the temperature was rising due to coolant. I phoned Jaguar assist again and got a the rudest person handling this situation, also stated that they could not verify my extended warranty and I had to pay for the tow myself, I agreed as this was an emergency. Upon arrival to my wife and the vehicle, I opened the bonnet to inspect what was going on, and found that the top radiator pipe had a hole blown straight through the middle of it, this is most definitely not normal for a 3 year old car. The fluid that was leak out was also a very dark brown and not as fluid as it should be, indicating to me that there is something majorly wrong. I am sure it would only be a matter of time before something else went majorly wrong. On top of this, assist had made the towing service to take the vehicle to Bedfordview and not to Boksburg.

On my way to my wife, I did phone Tony who sold me the car and told him what was happening and where the car was going, I also told him that this was the final chance and could not risk something else happening to my wife in this vehicle, I stated that either they find me another car or we cancel the deal. But the car is at Bedfordview. I waited till the following thursday and went to Boksburg Land Rover to find out what was happening and was told the car still was not repaired and still at Bedfordview. I then spoke to Bergit and Tony there and then and said are you going to look for another car, and again a smug reply from the Dealer Principle saying that its not something they do and difficult to find one, there are plenty evoques, im sure its not that difficult. I then asked if I could get a courtesy car in the meantime so my wife could get to work and again Bergit said a blatant no, we dont give courtesy cars to this type of situation. Which is strange because out of the seven times I have taken the car back for repairs I have received and courtesy vehicle for each time.

They also said they have to repair the vehicle first and then return it to Boksburg before they could do anything. This is after I had found out that this particular vehicle was only serviced 5000km over its first service interval. Which is worrying.

Monday 5 September, I phoned Bedfordview at 12:00 and asked if the vehicle was still there, and it was and still not repaired. I then lodged a complaint with Land Rover Sa and told them this is ridiculous, we dont have a spare car. We need a car. The Vehicle was then repaired and serviced, and then eventually returned to Boksburg on Wednesday, to which I was called to a meeting with Tony and Henry the second hand manger. I then was met by the most arrogant, smug and unhelpful person, Henry. To which I was told that they refuse to take the car back, and thats final. I asked for him to write that in an email and to send it to me so I could have evidence should I peruse the legal route, I am still waiting. I also did mention to him that he is in contravention of the consumer protection act, but all I got was a shrug of the shoulders and a thats what we standing by.

I am a Professional Civil Engineer and a manager at one of the top 3 largest Engineering firms in the world, and also a Director of a successful lubricants distributorship, and never in my whole career have I ever treated any of my clients or potential clients with the rudeness and arrogance I have received from Bergit and Henry. I strive to give the best to my clients in order to keep a high standard to my industries and my name, but this is completely unacceptable. A simple shrug of the shoulders and telling me there is nothing to be done is not the type of person I would want representing my brand.

I have also done some research and found that a Porsche Cayenne was also recently sold by this dealership at about the same time, and the new owner reported a R40 000 problem with the car and Henry refused to do anything about it. This is most certainly not a way to do business. Together with a Gentleman who traded and Golf 7 GTI in and his items went missing after he asked the manager to keep it.

Land Rover SA keep going in circles and I am getting no resolution, and all my wife and I would like is to wash our hands clean of this transaction in order for us to move on and purchase another vehicle for her.

I would like to resolve this in a decent manner and I have been far and patient throughout this experience, going the legal route would be a road I would like to avoid.

I thank you for you time in reading this and hope you understand my position, I think most mens priority is making sure there family is safe.

If you need to contact me, you can reach me on ****

With Kind Regards
