Engine Failure 2 months after service followed by bad customer service
I took my Jaguar F-Pace for its service at JLR Bryanston on 3 October, 2024. Less than 3 months later, on 22 December 2024, my vehicle suffered a complete engine failure.
The breakdown report revealed a loose connecting rod bolt had damaged the engine sump, bearings, and crankshaft - This failure required a complete engine replacement.
After reviewing the service documentation, I discovered:
They did not inspect the used oil or filter for metal particles - a standard practice would have revealed early warning signs
All specific test items were marked "N/A" on the service report No through engine inspection was documented (however they claim to have done 130 000km service)
When questioned, they admitted no oil/filter inspection was performed and claimed this wasn't part of their standard procedure for a 130 000km service
A loose connecting bolt doesn't fall suddenly without warning signs ( unusual noises, vibrations, metal particles in oil). Any competent service should have detected these issues
I requested information on What specific engine checks were performed during the service, Was the oil changed, and if so was the old inspected, why were all specific tests marked as "N/A" and what is their standard protocol for mechanical inspection during a 130 000km service
I requested this information on the 18th of February, and I am not getting any joy. Actually, this was my second request.
The case manager handling my case even told me this information would not help me in any way.
