Pre-owned Handsets

I have had a problem with my cellphone contract since early this year. I was given a faulty handset which could not be repaired. The new handset which was meant to replace the other one was not new, pre-owned, does not have internet. While fiddling with it to try and get internet settings, I came across information of who it had belonged to. Is there a way I can cancel this 24 months contract?
