A Cautionary Tale: Our Experience with Italtile Cape Town

When it comes to home renovations, choosing the right supplier can make or break your experience. Regrettably, our dealings with Italtile Cape Town, particularly with Brandon W, have been nothing short of a cautionary tale. From the outset, our experience was marred by a series of unfortunate events and poor customer service that left us questioning our choice.

Delivery Debacle

Our journey began with the delivery of essential items such as a bathtub, toilet, sinks, taps, and tiles. Unfortunately, the delivery truck—operated by an independent company—crashed into and severely damaged our gate and wall. While Italtile was not directly responsible for the mishap, it set a troubling tone for what was to come. To their credit, the independent company repaired the gate swiftly, but this initial hiccup was an ominous sign.

Initial Impressions

Our first interactions with Brandon W were mixed. While he was helpful in resolving the gate issue, his demeanour left much to be desired. He came across as arrogant and disinterested—traits that would become glaringly apparent as we proceeded, especially after payment had been made.

Purchasing Additional Items

During the building process, we needed extra tiles and returned to Brandon for assistance. Once he processed the sale, his disinterest resurfaced. When it came time to collect the tiles, after being told that he would meet me at the service entrance, I waited nearly 20 minutes in the sun before an independent contractor showed me where to go. The staff who loaded my vehicle were helpful, but the lack of guidance from Brandon was frustrating.

The Defective Tap Saga

The most aggravating part of our experience revolved around a faulty Tivoli tap. Our contractor discovered that the ceramic heads or cartridges inside the tap were defective, causing a persistent leak (which I have since learnt from industry professionals is not uncommon, despite Brandon’s consistent denial of such a possibility). Armed with the faulty parts, my wife and I returned to Italtile for replacements (as this is what we were initially informed, by Brandon, to be the starting point in such a situation).

Upon presenting the defective cartridges to Brandon, his first question to my wife was accusatory: "What did you do?" He then claimed that the standard procedure for dealing with faulty items was via WhatsApp—a stark contrast to his earlier assurance that we could return defective parts directly to the store.

A Battle of Wills

Brandon's attitude deteriorated further as he denied ever telling us we could bring faulty parts back to the store. He then suggested that we had damaged the parts ourselves and argued incessantly. His claims about the precision weighing of Tivoli parts in milligrams was nonsensical and only fuelled our frustration, and I informed Brandon of this & that I outright disagreed with his absurd claims.

When I suggested calling our contractor for clarification, Brandon accused him of damaging the parts on speakerphone. Despite this confrontation, Brandon arranged for our tap to be repaired on the same day—likely due to sheer exasperation rather than genuine customer service, and the fact that the technician so happened to be in our area at that time which was a lucky break. Brandon's final parting shot was to admonish us further by telling us to "be more attentive" on our building site, an absurd suggestion that added insult to injury by implying that we should personally supervise the various contractors on site.

Conclusion

Our experience with Italtile Cape Town was been profoundly disappointing. The arrogance and ego displayed by Brandon W is in my opinion indicative of a broader issue with their customer service. When considered in conjunction with other reviews on this platform (and others like it), Italtile leaves much to be desired.

If you value your peace of mind, I strongly advise against choosing Italtile for your home renovation needs. While their fancy brand names may be enticing, their after-sales service is beyond disgraceful. If you must purchase from them, limit your transactions to tiles to minimize future headaches & frustrations. In fact, our experience was so bad that should there be any more issues with our products going forward, arranging the repairs directly and losing out on the warranty has been made to be a very tempting option.

In a market brimming with alternatives, there's no reason to settle for subpar service.
