Transfer box breakdown after vehicle service
RE Breakdown of my Isuzu 300bKBl\ lx 2007 model Sequence of events An appointment was made for my bakkie on 3/8/2017 for a ********** km service. The vehicle was handed in at 07.00 hours At round about 12H00 I went to see the progress of the bakkie and found the mechanic taking of the brake assemblies on all wheels. We discussed the wear and I instructed him to change them all. We then looked at a oil leak on the gearbox extension housing and the mechanic informed me it might be coming from this tappet cover gasket which I immediately denied. If you check the engine department, no oil was visible. I then told him he is the expert and I left. My wife received a sms’d at 13h20 and told the bakkie was finished and on it’s way to the wash bin My wife arrived at the workshop at 16H00 but she was informed that the bakkie was not yet done and told she can wait in the tea room .The sms also said she must not be late as they close at17h00.She was handed the bakkie after 17h30 with a invoice for just over R8000.00 and she was told that they could unfortunately not give her the invoice as the system was offline.
She then proceeded home and about 2 km from the dealer some lights and a siren which she has never heard came on. She returned immediately to the dealer where she was told she shouldn’t worry as a wire was blown off with the high pressure cleaner. The bakkie was then fixed within 10 minutes. She left at 18h00 The next day we went to Pennington in KZN for 16 days. On my way back home, 37 km from my house in Rustenburg the bakkie started making a grounded noise. We carried on so that I could determine from where the noise came when my wife told me the wheels had seized and she pulled off the road. I told her that the noise come from the Transfer case. This noise was for about 500m until we stopped, less than 2 minutes. The bakkie was then transported on a low bed to Delta. The following morning I went to Delta at 07h00.I spoke to Lizelle and ask her if I can get my bakkie the same day and she answered no, as they work on schedules. I then told her I am glad as breakdowns that might have been caused by them should be scheduled first. She then called the workshop foreman whilst she treated me very rude. I asked for the job card but was told there is a lady working a day a week and that will only be on Wednesday and only then I can have the job card. The foreman and I proceeded to to work shop. The rear prop shaft was removed. It was established that the transfer case had no oil in it .We then discussed the oil leak on the main gearbox. The foreman then suggested we check the old spares that should have been in the bakkie but was nowhere to be found.
The next day I went to Delta to see the progress of the bakkie but nothing had been done as they were waiting for a quote for the transfer box. I then requested all the job cards when my bakkie was serviced up to ********** km. Andries, the foreman denied me access as he said it is the property of GM and that I need to request them from HEAD OFFICE. I then indicated to them that on none of the invoices I was handed, no transfer box oil was put in as the job card schedule does not make provision for a transfer box.I could also see that I was not invoiced for transfer box oil.I asked the service consultant that is it not possible that a 4x2 service schedule was used and she told me they pull job cards on engine numbers. Now if you look at the description of my bakkie on the job card it indicates a 300D-TEQ which mine isn’t.I asked the service advisor lady for the new Isusu job card and the transfer box is indicated on it. I reported to your department and was phoned today 25/8/2017 and told that the manager investigating this case said it will be for my account. I asked to speak to him and surprisingly I spoke to Andries,Rustenburg dealer manager. I expected feedback from at least a technician who knows what was going on and has knowledge of vehicles, not Andries who told me the diffs and the transfer case is one thing. On the day the bakkie was taken into the workshop after the breakdown, one of the mechanics told me the problem with the new generation mechanics is that they do not know their job. None of the invoices or job cards was signed by anyone. Andries also told me the box is irreparable and he is still waiting for quotes. My argument is, how could he establish the box was irreparable and he was awaiting a quote but the transfer box not yet removed. Andries told me a new box is R60000.00 and I asked him if there is no alternative. He said there is a good repairer in Rustenburg who does good work called Williams gearboxes and he will send it there. The next day I went to Williams and my Bakkie was not there. I went to Andries and he indicated to me he is trying to get my vehicle to Williams but cannot come right. I called a friend and we towed the vehicle to Williams. The next day I inspected the box and was told there was no lubrication in the box. Now,after discussing the oil leak prior to the service, why was the transfer box not checked and filled? If you look in the owners manual it indicates the oil levels will be checked every 15 000km and changed on every 4x4 that works hard every 30 000km. Attached are photo’s of the gearbox before it was cleaned. The quote given to me by Williams is R26 000.00. Do you feel it is fair that I must pay for the repairs if the agent did not do what was expected of them on a 160 000km service on a Isuzu 300KB LX 4 x4? 1)Do you think it is unreasonable from me to think Delta is *********** as my wife was told we could get the bakkie at around 14H00 but only received it at 5.30pm. Then after 2km she had to take the bakkie back when warning lights and sirens came on, on the dashboard, she got it after 6pm? 2) No provision is made on the job card to check the transfer box 3) All old spares taken out not placed in the bakkie as protocol 4 )No indication that any oil was put in on the invoice except for Engine oil 5) The fact that I was denied job cards of my vehicle 6 )How long was Andries planing to answer me on a detailed quote if he did not remove the transfer box? If Williams could do it in one day, why could Andries not do it in a week? 7) Andries informed me there was a crack in the transfer box
My bakkies Registration is HBK153NW Reference nr ********** 805 3/9/2017
1)When the transfer box was removed and stripped ,I visited the repairer. We checked the box thoroughly and found the planetary gears were stripped due to no lubrication 2) No sign of any crack on any part of the transfer box could be observed 3) O7/09/2017 I got my bakkie back from Williams gearbox services. I will be doing on 10/9/2017 at least 50 KM to test the transfer box. I have however done 15 KM in 4x4 and the bakkie seems fine. There is currently no sign of an oil leak 4) I paid just under R26000.00 rand for spares and labour to get my bakkie going. What assistance can I expect from you? It is very obvious that the oil level were not checked when it was serviced by the agent/dealer. They **** to me, did not return my spares (old) and did not service the bakkie as per the Isuzu 160000km checklist. 5) I was also appointed in terms of the law as the Garage foreman of Hartebeestfontein Gold mine. Therefore I claim that I am conversant with the mechanics of a vehicle
