What is happening at Investec?

I joined Investec in 2011 as a newly qualified Chartered Accountant and was very impressed with their service offering. I was offered a home loan, overdraft and vehicle finance at prime minus one percent.

However, things have changed dramatically since then. My income and asset base have increased by more than five times, yet I am unable to secure vehicle finance or a mortgage at a competitive rate. Despite being a creditworthy client for five years (with previous vehicle and home finance with them).

Despite being an Investec Private Banking client (which they want you to perceive as something special), I had my home financed through FNB at a much better rate (with no hassle at all).

When I recently tried to apply for vehicle finance for a relatively cheap car of R200 000, I had to convince Investec to provide finance for this (even though I could easily buy the car cash - which I eventually had to do).

I am extremely disappointed and as much as I have praised the bank in the past and referred new clients, I will be doing the opposite in future.
