Investec – “Premium” in Marketing Only, Not in Practice

If it were possible to give a 0 star rating, that is what I would havce given to Investec.

Our experience with Investec has been deeply disappointing and frustrating. The repeated delays surrounding both the clearance figures and the signing of an Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) are completely unacceptable, particularly from a bank that advertises itself as a “premium” private institution.

Despite not even being Investec clients, we have been directly affected by their inefficiency. The seller of our property has a home loan with Investec, and because of the bank’s inability to perform what should be straightforward administrative functions, three separate households, the seller, ourselves as purchasers, and the buyers of our current home, are now stuck, unable to move forward.

The complete lack of urgency and accountability from Investec is alarming. Other banks, which do not market themselves as “exclusive” or “elite,” have managed similar processes promptly and professionally. Yet, with Investec, we have encountered silence, vague communication, and an apparent unwillingness to take ownership or assist in moving matters along.

This delay has real consequences. With a pregnant wife and the year-end Deeds Office closure fast approaching, this situation is not merely inconvenient, it is distressing. Time-sensitive property transfers cannot be left in limbo because of institutional inefficiency.

Needless to say, I am confident in stating that I will never take out a home loan or any financial product with Investec. It has become abundantly clear that the bank’s reputation for “premium service” is purely a marketing illusion. Investec appears to pride itself not on excellence, but on complacency, a culture of laziness and inefficiency disguised as exclusivity.

For a bank that claims to represent the best of private banking in South Africa, Investec has demonstrated the opposite: a fundamental inability to provide even the most basic level of support, responsiveness, or accountability.

Reviewer Update
Thank you for your response in October 2025.
It is now 24 March 2026, and despite your assurance that the matter would be looked into, there has still been no resolution. The delays remain ongoing, and the required AOD has still not been finalised.
This has now resulted in serious consequences, including threats of electricity and water disconnection from the City of Johannesburg, impacting us directly as the current occupants, despite not being Investec clients.
Kindly advise what concrete action has been taken since your last response, and when this matter will be resolved.
