Data breach of IDs by syndicate showing weak controls and communication at Investec. Good riddance by I bank with Std Bank now

Data breach where syndicate compromised many clients' IDs. No notification or accountability for weak internal processes or controls. How did I find out? Not Investec no, a phone call is too expensive or too much effort. I found out when trying to upgrade at Cellc there is ***** in my name. Had to make numerous calls to find out Kevin Hogan listed IDs as compromised by a syndicate. So now, I get declined on applications because Investec has weak controls. Why we wouldn't sue is beyond me. If a bank gets compromised and don't contact you, they are not worth 1 cent of your money. Think about your data privacy when going to Investec in future. Very unhappy with how this was dealt with. Notify your damn clients so we don't have to find out via cellc or other companies.

Hi Leon, this was not an Investec data breach. The investigating authorities shared with us the data that was found in the syndicate’s possession and we matched it to our database to confirm the list of breached individuals. While this breach originated outside of Investec and was not within our control, we registered affected clients with the South African ***** Prevention Services (SAFPS) as a proactive ***** prevention measure and emailed these clients informing them that they had been registered. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Kevin will contact you directly to discuss the matter and deregister you with the SAFPS if that is your preference.
